If you can have a heart attack in your sleep, then you can have one during a nightmare. Yes.

Technically, I think the answer can be yes b/c some people have night terrors due to sleep apnea. Basically, your brain is going wacky b/c of the lack of oxygen. This also causes some people to wake up w/ their heart rate out of control until they get to the ER. So, if the sleep apnea is bad enough one night to where you never start breathing again, and it also causes you to have nightmares, then I guess you could die in the nightmare.

Actually a guy that died in his sleep was the inspiration for a nightmare on elm street. The guy was afraid to go sleep saying that something was going to kill him. When he finally went to sleep his family thought the worst was over until in the middle of the night they heard him screaming. By the time they got top his bedroom he was dead. The autopsy revealed that he was in perfect health and that his heart just stopped.

I've never died in my dreams. It always makes me wake up when I'm about to die. It is said if you die in your dreams it will make you die in real life in your sleep. I think it's an old wives' tale, though.

I had a dream once where I was executed by beheading. But I just woke up then with a start.
So you can die "in the dream" if your subconscious mind allows it! Although naturally you don't really die, that part is just a myth!

This depends on whom you ask. One popular theory regarding dreams (and nightmares) is that you can only dream about things you have seen and experienced. Thus you and I can dream about sugar cookies, golden retrievers, and three-eyed monsters because they are concepts we are familiar with and have seen, whether in real life or in media. Dying, on the other hand, cannot be dreamt of because we have never experienced it in any way. We can dream of external objects (like your best friend, or that three-eyed monster) dying, but not ourselves.
