Which is the best place to visit at Dominican Republic: Puerto Plata, Punta Cana or Santo Domingo?

Well, Santo Domingo has an interesting old Colonial part of town, and you can get to beaches about 30 minutes away by bus or taxi. I've heard the prettiest beaches are around punta cana, but it seems to be an all-inclusive resort kind of place, which might be for you. Santo Domingo can be a little dodgy and not as pristeen, but it's got the clubs, museums, and lots of shopping.
Puerto Plata might be good if you're looking for something in between. I'm sure the beaches are nice, and it would have more nightlife than Punta Cana. I've heard good things about Puerto Plata and Sosua nearby.

Hi!, I´m a tour operator for VIP´S here in the Dominican Republic. To answer your question, this depend on your personal taste. Punta Cana is more for people who don´t
want to leave the resort ( outside nothing to see, next town 38 miles away). Santo Domingo is nice but it is a big city ( 3 millions souls). The best "mix" is Puerto Plata, the nice beaches (renuewed) mountains, the town (200.000 souls) a lot to see and to discover. if you have more questions, just mail me.

I been to all of them, Im from the city and love it, but if you want to go on a vacation I would say Puerto Plata since there's so many beaches and mountains and pretty things there. Punta cana is also nice, but I like PP better.The city is cool if u want to go clubbing, or to the mall... oh well I don't know since I grew up there i always find thing to do..

Puerto Plata is beautiful, great beaches and mountains too (but I definately went for the beaches!). Santo Domingo is my favourite though - it's busy and crazy, but almost everyone is super friendly, you can bar crawl in the historic area on Friday nights and sit in the park drinking ice cold presidente! There are beautiful churches and buildings to get lost in, and the food - wow, there are so many places to eat all sorts of food! It is easy to get out of the city - take a bus (about half an hour) to the beaches, we stayed in a cute hotel right on the beach one weekend and it was only $15 a night for a room with two queen beds. Santo Domingo is definately in my top 10 favourite cities in the Caribbean.

Puerto plata is the north side, Punta Cana is the East, Bavaro resorts is east, to me Puerto plata it's better, even thou there's a lot of tourist going to punta cana, I still prefer the north side.

I have also been to Sto. Domingo, that is a beautiful city too!
I'm sure wherever you go you will L0ve!!
I have been there 3 times and i'm going back in a month!

I have been to all three and personally I like Punta Cana the best. I did enjoy all of them though.
