It is an argument used by creationists... They say that God created everything. If you ask them where did god come from they say that God is eternal - without beginning or end...

I don't know - but I reckon it's just an idea, like so many things we humans toy with. Which is grand as long as we don't believe in our own creations. I'm fully occupied dealing with my own consciousness and the consciousness of those around me in the short span of time we have, not being eternal.

maybe not just eternal, but also 'shared' or collective. i'm not sure if this is another term for the same thing. maybe you can tell me...

to me the idea of a shared collective consciousness among all members of a species is appealing and has its benefits. defensively, it could help protect individual members by sharing mechanisms and reflexes for dealing with predators. intellectually, it could help stimulate creativity by giving individuals a 'head start' by instilling in them things learned by their predecessors. archetypes common to all cultures often point to this as a possible cause.

it's an idea that has some merit. theoretically, so long as there are individuals to hard-wire this consciousness into, it will remain eternal.

Consciousness is thought. Though is energy. The laws of Physics says that energy cannot disappear or be destroyed, it only changes to a HIGHER form.
