There's no mention of James Potter having brothers and sisters. If he was a singleton, he would have inherited everything from his parents. Quite possibly, they were singletons, too, because Harry has NO relatives other than Aunt Petunia.

I remember reading an interview with JK Rowling (I just forget where, sorry) and she said that James's parents were rich and sort of old wizards. James was an only child so when they died he was left with a lot of money :-)
