The only thing in Deathly Hollows that kind of gave a hint was when Luna's father said that the owner of the true cloak of invisibility would be very wealthy, but how?

It would be fairly easy for the one who owned the cloak to get insider information on business deals. Look at how much Harry has overheard while wearing the cloak.

Add that to the fact that the Potter family is the last of a long wizarding family line and probably inherited more money from dead relatives in each generation. There's no mention of James Potter having brothers and sisters. If he was a singleton, he would have inherited everything from his parents. Quite possibly, they were singletons, too, because Harry has NO relatives other than Aunt Petunia.

I knew a man who was quite wealthy because he was the sole surviving member of his family in three generations. His cousins, aunt, uncle, and parents all died in Viet Nam and Korea. He had their money and their flags, all seven of them, in his closet. He was spared because he got malaria. When his parents jeep hit a land mine, they yanked him out of the hospital and out of the Army at the same time.

that's not actual, surely. JK Rowling has a awesome mind's eye, that does no longer advise that the international of magic exists. do no longer forget approximately interior the final e book, demise eaters had brought about distinctive failures to ensue, which failed to ensue in actual existence. the only Harry Potter that exists is the single in trouble-free Studios Orlando (The Wizarding international of Harry Potter), i advise you pass there, it extremely is cool. Plus, while you're a believer interior the Lord, the Bible (which might say approximately magic if there replaced into wizards if there have been some) says no longer something approximately it.

James is parents were rich, and like his son he inherited his fortune from them.

The following is from an AOL interview Rowling did.

"What did James and Lily Potter do when they were alive?

Well, I can't go into too much detail, because you're going to find out in future books. But James inherited plenty of money, so he didn't need a well-paid profession. You'll find out more about both Harry's parents later. "

I remember reading an interview with JK Rowling (I just forget where, sorry) and she said that James's parents were rich and sort of old wizards. James was an only child so when they died he was left with a lot of money :-)

Because they were aurors hunting Death Eaters and Voldemort. Thats a big risk you have to get paid a lot of money for that sort of job.
