Being a very patriotic man i always stand for my country no matter what. No matter what anyone says this is the best country to live in,but it bothers me that our own people talk so negatively about things that we in all actuality have little knowledge about. Now please im no politician but im American thru and thru and you no we all know that no matter who gets in office they are not going to be good enough! Man or woman whoever gets in office the problems with them will be flying, what is bad will be characterized by the media as terrible, the trust in anyone is diminished when we listen to the media because all they care about is money not the trruth! Who will be watching, and what we can say that will devert people to our station rather that the others.
Being a Vietnam veteran we need to stick together America! Get that pride that the flag represents back, and stand tall! What can we do to get that pride back and stand behind our troops as well as our President!

I deeply appreciate your dedication and military service to America and its highest ideals of freedom and justice for all. I too believe deeply in the American ideal and promise. We enjoy a quality of life that is not often found elsewhere in the world. It is also evident that many, many countries are following the lead of democratic societies and seeking to emulate our standard of living. However, it is uniquely American to hold our elected officials accountable for NOT living our constitutional mandates while in office. To me the press and media is one of our last institutions to stand between our ignorance and the excesses of power that occur every day. I live in Pennsylvania where the state legislature passed massive salary increases AT 2 AM IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT hoping no one would notice. The press did, wrote about it and the next election saw many politicians voted out of office for such blatant self interest. You and I need to be very careful in targeting the media and press as the "enemy" of the people. A free press is vital to a free people. Vigilance IS the price of liberty. The ability to ask and answer questions on this web site is a sterling example of a "free press."

Well, negativity for it's own sake is not a good thing. I agree.
Your question alluded to the fact that we don't really know a lot of the things going on, the sometimes rotten choices our leaders must make, etc. It would be impossible for us to really judge many matters properly. So we must question our leaders constantly. If warrantless wiretaps, for instance, are an absolute necessity in the war against our enemies, then we're going to have to live with them. But I want those who wish to use such a tool to submit to a lot of scrutiny. To give them a blank check seems, to me, very negligent. They're only human and even the best intentions won't protect us from eventual abuse. This is one small exampe, but I hope it illustrates the point. Leaders must be challenged as a matter of course.

The media DOES stand for what it believes in...THE MONEY.
Just for example; in our local paper, the Virginia Pilot, there's a auto section called CLICK AND CLACK. These two guys give advice about car care. Well, they made fun of used car dealers. One of our local car dealers threatened to pull its advertising if the paper continued to run C&C. The paper buckled and dropped C&C. The all mighty dollar won again.
If the VA PILOT doesn't advertise the car dealer, the car dealer would lose business, right? duh

It would take having a government and leaders with character and morals. I feel the government is for the money, about the money...Blind faith in your leaders is no longer a wise option.
