Were there any unusual circumstances that cause this to happen? Is there a certain state of mind that you have to be in for this to happen?

When you say premonition I assume you mean something like Deja Vu. Deja Vu is caused when your brain accidentally sends the information it is currently receiving to long term memory, at the same time your getting it. So when it feels like you've seen or heard or smelled the object or situation or place or time that your currently in you really haven't. So I would understand why some people would interprete this as a premonition. If your not talking about Deja vu, then you might be ripping the whole space time continuum a new one or something cool sounding like that.

Sometimes you just "know" what is going to happen to someone based on their personality. For instance, if someone is a constant goof-off, you can bet that one day they will end up in jail. If someone is stubborn, you can bet they might have a difficult time holding a job, or having a nice home.
I think a premonition has a little to do with having a fantasy, but using a person's health or personality in the premonition.
