When her 2005 Lincoln Aviator Downshifts it makes a loud "thump" sound. and you can feel it shift pretty hard. it is very noticeable. any suggestions of what it might be would be greatly appreciated. the dealer is just shrugging it off and i want to be able to go with her and be specific with them so they have no reason not to check.

Take it to another dealer if the guy is blowing you off. If you don't want to do that, then there is a number in your owner's manual towards the back. It is a 1-800 number that will connect you to customer service in Dearborn. Explain the details to the representative, then the rep will get in touch with the dealer and have a little discussion with him. You may find that his attitude will change.

I assume that the car is still under warrany? I believe they came with a 4yr/48K mile warranty?

You might need to have the fluid changed. Or there could be another problem. But discuss it with the people in Detroit and they will help you.

good luck.

She needs to go back to the dealer and make them inspect it. As long as she is within the warranty (3 yrs, 30,000 miles) then she may have to pay an hour diag (about 70-90 dollars). If it is noticable, then ask them to go on a drive with you to verify the concern. If they still refuse, go to another dealer, even a ford dealer can work on Lincolns under warranty, and there should be at least one ford dealer nearby you.

Do not take no for an answer! Those dealers are stupid to let a customer walk out the door without an answer!

if it's under warranty go to a different dealer. if it does it all the time make the dealer go for a ride with you and ask them sarcastically " now do you think that's normal" that's like a used car salesman telling you that's normal they all do that. good luck

Broken tranny or engine mount?
Bad shift modulator?
Worn U joints on the drive shaft?

Could be a number of things.
