Bettas are fighting fish and will fight if in same tank. Also if their in separate tanks they will go towards the wall and look at each other and will try to fight and get stressed out from from it unless you have them at a distance then it must be water quality.

Okay I Have Had 3 Bettas And 1 Thing Is If You Put 2 Bettas In The Same Fish Bowl They'll Fight Till One Of Them Dies.
And Depending On What Store Or Where You Got Them From They Could Have Been Sick. That's What Happened to One Of Mine. I Hope This Helps Best Of Luck !

How were you keeping them? They are tropical fish, so the little container you see them in at stores isn't good for them. They should have at the very minimum a gallon of water, and 2.5 or 5 gallons is even better. They need a heater, because they should have water in the 76-86oF range, and a small filter isn't a bad idea either.
Most likely, your fish didn't have warm enough water, or the water volume was too small, or too poor of quality. If the fish is in unfiltered water, you should do 100% water changes every 3 days. If they're in a tank with a filter, you can change 25% of the water each week. In small bowls the wastes of the fish (which include ammonia, which is colorless, but toxic to your fish) will build up too quickly.

LIke everyone has said already, DO NOT put two male betas in the same bowl. But, if they are not in the same bowl, it could have died if you use tapwater in its tank. When you have a fish you NEED to put water conditioner in its bowl right after you clean it. If not, the fish will die because of the bad chemicals and other things in the water. You can get betta water conditioner at any pet store. This happened to one of my fish once. Hope i helped!

Hopefully you didn't put 2 males in the same tank or bowl. Because if you did, the other one was killed. If they were in separate bowls or tanks and only one died, then the one fish might have been sick when you bought it.
Don't give up! =]
