You meant Socrates or you meant Plato?

Socrates' "value" is his approach to all theories - critical thinking, as they call it today...in short - philosophy does not teach "what to think about...", but "how to think about...". He does not provide answers , he is just asking the right questions...

Edit: yes, Socrate and Plato do have a different approach to similar ideas... when you discuss about Socrate, the issue is that most of what we know about him we know from Plato's works, since Socrate left no written works. But if you read most of Plato's dialogs, you can make the difference between his early works that are "more Socratic", he does not develop a theory about the issue debated and the latest works, where theories about moral and state are developed-and that's mostly Plato...

"Critical thinking" ...Well today's life is quite complex and there are a lot of areas were asking the right questions might save you a lot of trouble : from political and civil rights issues to financial and credit ones... Also, a lot more jobs are requiring for you to make decisions - therefore keeping an open mind and knowing what questions to would be a great tool...this is why Socrates' approach goes beyond time and times, because it goes beyond particular theories or issues...

hope that answers, in short, your question...

It is a mixture of philosophy and theology. Trying to open our minds to new, yet old ideas.
