We know from 9/11 they can provide suicide warriors. Selling weapons to them could result in the weapons being used against our troops, as has happened many times before. Arms sold to Iran to fight earlier wars are turning up in Iraq. When will we ever learn? (Where have all the flowers gone, long time passing......)

dsanthony: The military has reported that SA HAS sent Sunni insurgents to fight the Shiites in Iraq. How do you know they are not? Iran sends Shiites to fight the Sunnis. The US is in the middle, where they should NOT be.

Yes to everything.

The Sunni part of SA is supporting the insurgency in Iraq--because they don't want to see a genocide take place.

Iran is supporting the Shiite militias and both sects are seeking to drive the US out of Iraq--so they can go at it without any outside interference.

Maybe they are--I guess they feel guilty since Iraq took the heat when the 9/11 suicide bombers were accused of being from Saudi Arabia.

(The fact that several of the 'bombers' turned up alive with stolen passports after 9/11, and that none of them were listed on the manifests for the flights casts a little doubt on their existence, but, oh well . . . .)

Saudis run a dependent society. All professionals come from the outside, all low-level workers come from the outside. Citizens there have no work and are largely on welfare from the oil revenues. I think some of them might be going to Iraq to fight just for something to do.

Why do people hold on to willful ignorance? Saudi Arabia did not "send" hijackers for the September attacks, and they are not "sending" insurgents to Iraq. Certainly some Saudis traveled to the US for the WTC hijackings, and some are probably going to Iraq to fight. They are not being "sent" by the Saudi Government.

I would find the government of Saudi Arabia sponsoring anything like this to be silly. Their intelligence agency has been known to have established ties to notorious entities, but it's the nature of these agencies to know people who know people.

The purpose of the US selling weapons to Saudi Arabia is to have another bargaining chip on the table during negotiations with Iran, and not to generate revenue or fuel a war in the Middle East.

It is stunning what the Saudis get away with: murder, quite literally.
Of course it's just they have oodles of oil. Wouldn't it be wonderful if they just ran out?
But to answer your question, YEP!
