Money is not always key! If a job pays well and stresses you out, its not worth keeping. Happiness is what matters. I think you should find a job that you feel content on. However, make sure it pays well enough so that you can pay your bills and live comfortably. Good luck!

I think you're confusing things. There are plenty of business jobs where you can come and go as you please. Likewise, there are plenty of art related jobs that have a very demanding schedule - with lots of long hours.
So is it the type of work that bothers you? Or is it the fact that you have to stick to someone elses schedule?
The other question is, why do you want a flexible schedule? If it's so that you can sleep late and do errands, then yes, I agree with your parents. It's another matter if you want a flex schedule because you're in school part time, or you're taking care of an elderly person, etc.
I had two people work for me a while back. One came in late and frequently took days off. The only reason was "didn't feel like working." The other person also took lots of days off, but she was an actress and had to go to shoots or auditions. She also made sure she was always caught up with her work. Guess which one got fired?

Nope...
I've run from place to place for over ten years.
Graduated, didn't bother going to the ceremony... hit the gate running. Went to three colleges- I got bored.
Wanted something more- left college with less than a semester to graduation... joined the military... jumped out of planes, fired rifles, blew things up, went to war, flew in helicopters, fired more, got blown up over and over and over and came home to be "an adult" or "responsible."
Found out life is boring unless you make it fun.
Jumped back on and went back to war again- more of the same bombs and bullets- just in different places.
Now I'm home and have a job writing, I have a helluva great dog, my best friend and family are still here.
A lot of my friends have "grown up" and moved on..."families:" and "careers" and are successful in their own ways.
I wouldn't change a single day or decision... traveled around and took some good and a lot of bad from the world.and it was EXCELLENT!!!
You' can't live your life by anyone else's standards. ANYONE'S!
Or you'll wonder what if for the rest of your life- which would give you something to do while you whittle away the boredom.
Similarly this life isn't for everyone either; we all go our own way.
No, you're not a weirdo.

I think most people would love to live the freelance kind of life, but then they are confronted with that pesky little thing called money and its arch enemy - bills. I would love to travel around, writing, maybe photojournalism but its impossible. I'm used to things like electricity, phone service, and food which freelancing won't allow me to enjoy. My job in law enforcement does that for me. You're definitely not alone though.

Somebody have to raise the kids, just make sure you don't become lazy sitting at home watching tv and being on the internet, while your husband works all day, and he comes home and no food and the house is a mess, if that is the case, then it's better for you to do something else. but If you could get your act together at home, go for it.

Well, I used to work in a stable when I was 13... learning the skills of horsemanship as an apprentice until one day I found out that my 'friend' was a pervert (I don't want to talk about it)...
