I mean four people and you've easily spent 50-75 bucks its ridiculous! 7 bucks for popcorn! and 5 dollars for a drink!! And these things actually only cost the company a few cents each! I know this because i used to work there...and even if someone wanted only an empty cup we had to charge them full price, can you imagine paying 5 bucks for an empty cup!

We controlled the soda machine behind concessions so its not like they could ask for a cup of water and sneak soda

Consumerism = The American Way = The Way Of The World
If they didn't make money off the snacks, they wouldn't make any money and wouldn't be able to show movies. It sucks but that's how it's set up. The studios and/or distributors need to share more of the ticket sales with them like they used to. However, even then they still priced the snacks too high. Just because they could. Now they have to. And we have to pay the cost. It's best to 'fill up' before you get to the movie theatre so you won't be as tempted to head for the snack bar. Sneaking food in is a good idea. It's not illegal but they can make you leave if they catch you. That's why I like going to the drive-in. Only 6 bucks for 2 movies and a candy bar is less than a dollar! That's the way to go :-)

I am not going to lie, the movie theaters do cost a lot to have a night out watching a movie. You have to remember that the theater only gets so much money from the movie tickets. They are giving a lot of it back to the makers of the movie and all that. So to remain making money the charge a lot for popcorn, drinks, and candy. They also know, because you can't bring food in, that people are willing to pay this price because that is the only food within the vicinity. Unless of course you want to pay for the overpriced vending machine snacks. Who wants that right?

Also, you shouldn't be charged for an empty cup unless you are asking for a big one. They give out styrofoam cups but our smaller. They aren't going to trust their customers to take this free large soda cup and get water, are they?

But if you worked there, you should know all this. :)

Edit: So you guys controlled the soda machines. That still doesn't mean they can't get free soda. All they would have to do is send the cup up with their friend and ask for a refill. I mean, if they really wanted their free soda.

It's ridiculous and a ripoff, but it's not just Regal. And these big theatre chains wonder why every year attendance is declining? Easier and way cheaper to buy the DVD, make your own popcorn and watch it at home on the bigscreen :)

Yes it's overpriced. I used to work there too. I worked at the box office.
