RES females can grow slightly larger than yellow bellies, but maybe by a couple inches. Not a huge amount. I have both kinds, and both are nice turtles to have. i probably have a personal preference to the yellow bellies though as my first turtle is a yellow belly. I got her as a baby and have had her 11 yrs now and she is very full of personality. I handled her a lot when she was young, so i can pick her up w/out her being afraid at all (she will actually just sit in the palm of my hand and let her legs dangle down because she has no fear of me dropping her). she loves to walk around inside my house when i let her, and she very much recognizes me and my voice even though over the past few years we were separated a lot because i had to move a lot and she stayed with other ppl for a while. when i talk to her she will listen to me (looks right at me and turns her head, etc.) shes awesome :) she has lots of great personality:)
(all my turts do have their own personalities, she's just my first and prolly will always be my fave;)).

They are similar in most ways except appearance, I believe yellow bellies get slightly larger.
Since EVERYBODY has a red-ear, why not be different and get the Yellow belly?

BTW, a previous poster indicated that her turtle knows the sound of her voice. Turtles are essentially deaf.

They're about the same. The care is the same as well.
