Take it to another garage you only need a decent multimeter and the ability to read it to check out your wiring loom.Certainly do not buy another loom. When he said he had tested everything he does not sound capable of doing so.For it to be only on one cyl its either loss of compression/Lack of spark to that cyl/or lack of fuel.Own and work on Audi in UK.Keep me posted i will try to help further.Best regards Mick.

well if the engine is installed and running you will need to pay for the engine the labor and the other parts used. after that the decison to go else where or allow him to proceed or just drive it is yours. if your trust in the man is a issue then take it for a second opinion. how ever if he recomended replace the harness and you declined it he can not be held responsible for it. only for something he did that was wrong.

That's suck.. That meand this mechanic don't know what he's doing.. He souldn't have change your motor from the begining.. Maybe your orginal motor is sitll good and just the wire is haveing problem.. Audi A4 does have electrical problem. I personal thing if he charge you 5K he sould of get your car running right... REPORT HIM IF HE DON'T,, Good Luck

Anyone who puts a USED engine in a car will have certain problems. All you have to do is use the old wires from the orginal engine

Sounds odd to me.
If it's misfireing on one cylinder there are only two things to check reguarding the harness.
1) Injector voltage.
2) Spark.
Hell, it might be a bad spark plug??? (it happens)

Take your car to a shop that can test the problem....if that's the problem then go back to your mechanic and have him intall that part...shop around and see who is cheaper...remember cheaper is not always better. Now you know the problem you could shop around and get reasonable prices...

if your mechanic doesn't have a tester...find another mechanic. inform him unless he fixes the car properly, you will be calling the better business bureau and filing a complaint. good luck! do not pay another penny....five grand???? you might want to take this to court too for reimbursement!!!
