I have seen this question http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AuQ6sYpStSPeNRc1PBaKo_Lsy6IX?qid=20070729062401AAmLq2D

and I answered it. As I thinked about, it made me truly sick...I get my last meal out.

How can I be still so affected by that years after ?
I know I should go to see a specialist but I am really afraid of the possible effect that a bad report from a psy can have on my career in the armed forces.

it would be easy for me to say you didn't deserve it...you did nothing to promote it...it is all about power and control of the perpetrator...and while that is all true...you have heard it a million times and it still means nothing to you...i know...it means nothing to me either...there is still the wonder of why? the reason is...we are people who were victimized...and cannot understand how another person would do that because it is not in our thought processes to even conceive that...i hate being a victim of anything...and in that have had dreams of rape which were romanticized...i don't know how that makes sense at all and i think i have the hardest time with that part of it...if you need to talk to someone you can email me...it is a difficult process and recovery is extremely hard because the issues keep changing...

I don't know what seeing a specialist would do to your career in the military. But you need help or there won't be an officer to BE in the military. I can't imagine that many, many people who come back from combat wouldn't need help.

As I understand your post, at this point in time, your choices are: be in the military with an unsullied record or kill yourself. You've got to make the right choice and it needs to be made now, because later might be too late.

I'm so sorry that serving this country has damaged your psyche so badly. You deserve the best help the government can give or the best help the private sector can offer. You can't face these demons every day and be happy and functional (which you also deserve).

NAMI - National Association for Mental Illness (NAMI.org) has lots of good information about Post-Traumatic Stress Syndrome, and a posting board where you can talk to others with this problem. If you need them to help you find help, it can be arranged.

Thank you for serving our country.

I read your answer mate, believe me you need to get help.

The person who posted the question is a fool and you were very right to be angry with the silly thrill seeking cow but if you are still feeling so bad you need to deal with.

If you don't it will affect all your relationships and you will end up with no life. then the rapist will have won.

Dont put a career before a life. Do you really want to spend your life attached to an organisation that would make you carry that as a condition of service, that is not right mate, not right at all.

Get the help outside the forces if you need to, there are agencies in most countries and i'm sure it would all be confidential.

I can understand what you are afraid of. But, remember each one has some truamas like that. For some it takes Years after years to recover from that, while some forget it i few days/ months. Believe me nothing has gone wrong still... Let it out by writing in this each day. This will help you release yourself. & Remember that I am always there to help you in case you need. But I am sure You won't need me as you are going to recover soon. Trust my words....

You don't have to seek help within the armed services, you can get help outside, and it's strictly confidential - they CANNOT release any of your personal details or information to anyone else without your permission.

Good luck & God bless.

go to some one else in privite and if the report is bad than deal with it. but it is something you need to know for your self if nothing else. and who knows it may not be a big deal. good luck with that

trauma can often revisit us. If you are having difficulties that you are not able to cope with then your Psy. should treat you and not divulge your confidence as you are obviously managing to keep your post.
