how can you tell if its a male or a female? its about 4 years old. any help?

Males have a line of pores near the base of the tail that look like a widely spread V. They also have two bulges (testicles)

Males are more heavy-bodied than females, with broader heads and thicker necks. The best way to sex them is to look at the ventral side. Males have a V-shaped row of pre-anal pores which exude a waxy substance. Hemipenal bulges can be seen at the base of the tail of sexually mature males. Females have pre-anal "pits" - pores which are not filled nor exuding the waxy plugs.

it will get genatiles at the base of it's tail just like anything else if it is a male.... but it won't be so big and grusome as some animals....
I suggest taking it in to a vet.... it could be either one no matter what it "LOOKS" like it is.... they can give it a blood test for absolute positive results.... or they can show you the proper way to push in the gecko's slit and show you if it has a penis or not.....

hey! i have one too! mine is a boy. you tell like thiss. you have to pick them up and look under their tail... if its a dude itll have a line and if its a girl you eont be able to see anything... it came out of a l.g book!
