i just got a new matress and all new bedding, I'm not allergic to anything, but i think dust mites are gross and i want to keep them to a minimum. my bedding is red and black and i used to keep my bed really dirty and literally never cleaned it. How often should i clean it to avoid dust mites and dirt but still keep it colorful?

wash once a week - as long as you didn't go to sleep sweaty ; ) i wuld rotate and vacuum your mattress twice a year - i choose before Christmas and Easter. when it comes to the washing use either an all fabric bleach OR Borax (my favorite) AND toss about 1/4 to 1/2 cup of inxpensive white vineager in the wash cycle -- it helps hold in the color and is a natural disenfectant! no your stuff won't smell from it - don't worry : ) oh also, when you do the mattress flip - wash your mattress pad too!

Do yourself and favor and "invest" $20-$30 in a nice waterproof mattress pad.. That will help, keep your new mattress clean and if any spills, accidents etc.. happen your mattress will be spared... You just wash the mattress cover... If you are worried of dust mites you can get a waterproof mattress cover that actually encloses the mattress so there's a barrier between you and the mattress... I like to vacuum my mattress once a week when I change my bedding.. . I launder my comforter/duvet/ down comforter about once a month.. I usually wash my duvet with my bed linens... If you have bright colored bedding use a gentle detergent/cold water wash/rinse.. That will help keep it looking nice... Good luck

I watched a program by the BBC (I think) that was WAY too informative- gave horrifying facts, like the wieght of your mattress doubling every ten years you keep it due to the number of mites- Argh!!

They recommended washing everything once a week, but the crucial thing to control mites was to use an allergenic pillowcase to protect your pillow from infestation, and to replace your pillow once a year. You should also have a protective liner to make your mattress impermeable to the little buggers. I was so grossed out by it all I ran out and bought new pillows for the family and liners for all the beds. My kids are getting new mattresses today (different reason) and we are getting new liners just for the occasion!

I am allergic to dustmites, so I work to avoid them.

I wash my bedding weekly and every night I spray febreeze antimicrobrial spray on my bedding in the morning. It helps to get rid of the dust mites. It works well :)

Fist of all what you are able to desire to do on a weekly foundation is wash you mattress linens in warm water. whilst your mattress has no longer something on it take a small handheld vacuum and vacuum your mattress. in case you have carpet at your house of abode on a daily basis vacuuming and dusting will help alleviate your fears. you will know in case you have bedbugs by potential of waking up with tiny bumps throughout your dermis. in simple terms doing a touch better cleansing which incorporates dusting your abode all would be in simple terms fantastic.
