last night i was talking to my friend and i was making this story and then he got mad and i dont know why. i keep saying sorry and he wont message me back or im me back or anything. ill call him and i say please please dont hang up but he does anyway. so what else can i do?

well i was asking him questions and he asked me why and i made up this story but i was joking. and he took it seriously.

Leave him alone for a bit. If you two are really good friends, then just a little bit of time will help him sort things out. If you don't know what got him mad, then it may not entirely have to do with you. Something else may be going on and he just got fed up really easily.
One thing not to do is to have another friend check in with him for you. That would probably get him even more pissed off. Give him a little space and time and eventually he'll get over it.

Sometimes people need time away from the person that hurt them so that they can digest the apology. If you hurt him, it doesn't sound like it was done intentionally. You might want to find out what you said exactly that hurt him so that you don't do it again. All you can do is apologize and offer to make amends when he's ready to talk to you. Nothing else can be done.

When you say "making this story", do you mean lying about something? If that's the case you have lost trust in your friendship, which isn't easy to regain. Sorry doesn't cut it. You'll have to prove you are trustworthy by admitting you were wrong about whatever you storied about.
