if you think one side favors more than the other, can you tell me why? Just doing a small survey for an American History class. Any opinions will help.

The concept of compromise is to find a solution considered fair and equitable to all parties involved, so why would the Compromise of 1850 favor either the the slave or free states?

The 1850 Compromise was fairly even, but it probably favored the slaveholders a bit more. The Fugitive Slave Act, which was part of the 1850 package, gave slaveholders full compensation for the admission of California.

Mostly, in the intended result of settling the slavery question, it was an abject failure. The Fugitive Slave Act outraged Northern opinion and led to increased sectional bitterness. Sectional rivalries were aggravated even more because it re-opened old questions and led to the Kansas-Nebraska Act of a few years later. Since that Act repealed the Missouri Compromise and permitted slavery in territories where it had been plainly barred by the Missouri Compromise, it was clearly a Southern victory and not a compromise at all. Of course, it also helped lead to the rise of the Republicans, secession, and the ultimate destruction of slavery.

Neither side was satisfied. It didn't address abolishing slavery it allowed the slave states to continue and in fact added a new law for fugitives. It mainly established the position of the territories acquired from the Mexican War and all were non-slave states.

It was a failed policy (compromise) and only delayed the American Civil War:
