All you really need are a car seat, cloth diapers, diaper covers, cloth baby wipes, and a sling. The baby can sleep with you, shower with you, hang with you. Wearing your baby in a sling will keep your baby happy and comfy and secure. You don't need a stroller or a changing table or a swing or any of that junk. Really. I have four kids and found out the hard way that all that stuff is a waste of money and space. Check out www.attachmentparenting.org to find some support and info that will not "cost" you money for things you don't really need.

if your breast feeding you will need
breast pads (you will probably need a few either way)
bras
and vitamin D

you will also need some clothing i would buy the 3 months stuff unless you are told you are going to have a small baby my boys one 8 lbs at birth one 9 91/2 both came out wearing 3 month clothing and only wore it for about 2 or 3 weeks
a bouncey chair its a safe place to put your little one if you need to cook or something a swing or rocker will do (my kids liked the bouncey chair best)
recieving blankets
i always buy new socks and underwear for the hospital its just nice
pjs that are not big but not pre-pregnancy size for the way home with my first i never even though about what i would be wearing home lol
you may want to get some gripe water it helps with gas and you never know if you'll have a gassy baby
you will need a car seat and perhaps a stroller if you would like to go for walks or a sling or carrier

babies don;t really need too much for the first 3 months they are happy with diapers and food and attention

Hello there, hey sweetie the most important things you will need for your first 3 months is : plenty of diapers , baby bottles, baby milk, of course clothes for the baby, baby blanket, lotion, baby bath soap, powder, baby rash ointment, a thermometer, a car seat, and a stroller, that's the most important things u will need. Remember when buying the baby clothes, they will grow a little fast, and think about how many months they will be when getting colder. I hope i had helped u out. Hey if u ever need to chat I am here for you. My daughter is pregnant, she is due August 22, 2007. So i am pretty excited. You have a good day!!!! Bye...

I found receiving blankets really helpful and can be used for just about everything. Lots of sleepers and onesies. A thermometer in case of fever. Zinc cream for their little bum. Vitamin D drops if you decide to do that. Gas relief drops, I used Ovol. A baby sling, they are awesome, my newborn fell right asleep in that thing. Socks, hats, warm blankets for taking them out in the winter. Get warm sleepers for night time, fleece ones are great, then you don't have to put a blanket in with them which is a risk for SIDS. Plus everything that every one else said. They grow out of clothes SO fast so don't spend lots of time or money on cute outfits, one or two will do. Hat if you are taking them out in the sun. And of course, a camera!!! Have fun!

this is the stuff we actually USED:

1.boppy: for breastfeeding and bottlefeeding. we also used this later to prop him up. we loved this item the most!
2. plenty of bottles and nipples...even if you are breastfeeding.
3. manual breast pump. we got a medela for 30 bucks and it's great.
4. lots and lots of onesies. we took all the hand-me-downs we could get. you can never have enough onesies. also, get a pack of t-shirts for baby.
5. diaper bag. get one with lots of space and a sturdy strap.
6. socks! bibs! more socks. we used baby socks for his hands too, cause he had a problem with scratching himself. don't waste money on the cute little mittens-they won't stay on the baby's hands.
7. diapers. this is obvious.
8. we had lots of hygenic stuff for the diaper changing table (which was a waste of money.) you'll need rubbing alcohol for umbilical cord stump-we liked the alcohol wipes. also, get q-tips, peroxide, and lots of petroleum jelly for diaper changes. this worked better for us than any of the expensive stuff!
9. pack-n-play. get one with a bassinet included. we still use it and our son is nearly 5 months old and very big for his age. he'll be able to use the bottom part as a play pen later. plus, you can move them around and we take it to grandma's when he spends the night.
10. baby swing. you can get a cheap one that works just as well as the expensive ones. get one with lights and sound!
11. car seat. we got two and have never used the second. you can always interchange the base. also, a stroller. we got one that matched the carset and it fits right into the stroller. very convenient!
12. lots and lots of receiving blankets and little washcloths. i just think that this is useful. you can use the blankets for tummy time.
13. invest in a couple of bottles of sanitizer for your hands. we have one in our room, in the bathroom, the diaper bag, the kitchen and at grandma's house. you don't want to spread germs, especially with all the diaper changes.
14, baby tub. you can get a good one for 10 bucks at target!
and really, i'm sure there's much more, but i can't think of it. honestly, you will get most of this stuff at your baby shower. try second hand shops too. congrats and good luck!

remember in the first year of life it's not reccomended to use blankets (big fluffy ones etc) they can smother
we needed, Diapers, Wipes, a tub, washcloths, towels, a crib/bassenet, shampoo, soap, a carseat, a diaper bag, a notebook (comes in VERY handy LOL) cloths, like onsies, sleepers, easy things to get them in and out of. think winter stuff too cause it's coming up.. you will need recieving blankets socks, possibly mittens, hats,
I hope i'm not forgetting things, I reccomend breastfeeding it's so much easier and better for your baby, and it's free but if not you may need bottles formula, warmer, extra nipples.

Go to babycenter.com. I used by bassinet, changing table, bouncer, and big blankets a lot. There are so many things you need. I also liked my pack-n-play. Good luck!
