Don't about 65% or so of Americans want all of those things from their government, even if they are considered somewhat "socialistic", and may even harm Corporate America?

So what does it say about our democracy that we can't get ANY of them?

Who says we aren't willing to pay more in taxes? The money is out there somewhere...

Chi Guy, most of the people who watch those shows don't have the money to do those things and never will. They have allowed the media to sell them a set of desires that have no connection to reality.

It means we all want a free lunch, but aren't willing to pay the taxes to get those things. That's why we don't have them.

Job security since ANY American from low wage to the top can be fired without reason and sometimes the reasons are with creative legal language.

People that are loyal and earn their money are not allowed to retire because the owners want to keep more money and NOT share it.

Some people are promoted because they informants that is tattle tellers or snitches.

WHAT GOES AROUND COMES AROUND!!! !!!

Some business owners came about their employee more than others.

Just because the "economy" is doing great does not mean that people will get decent pay raises or living wages.

US Politicians and Board of Directors get annual increase in pay at the expense of their subordinates. Most do not deserve a pay increase.

If the Los Angeles Sheriff Department did not have a union, any deputy that criticizes Sheriff Lee Baca would be automatically terminated.

US Corporations are using the US Military and their technologies to censor and make the lives of those who protest a nightmare.

Gary Webb is an example of someone who dared to expose the CIA.

He ended unemployable and committed suicide.

I call it Legal Murder!

Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Jefferson must be turning in their graves.

We are losing our freedom to dissent with the truth.

First of all, Yes, most Americans want peace, and most Americans realize that there is a price to be payed for defending that peace, just as our Forefathers done so many years ago. The only thing then, was they entrusted their lives and fortunes defending it, and sadly, we have forsaken those Ideals over the last six or seven decades, It all started in the sixties when Liberalism has deteriorated society's will to fight.

Health care? Well, those who are dependant on the government to supply all their needs would want to complain about better health care, what they don't realize is that health is just like anything else, it must be earned before you can reap the benefits of it.

Housing? It goes the same for housing, it is also worked for if it is to be a benefit to the individual.

Better education? Well, now education, I agree there, I think we could do more to help better educate the children, simply by not brainwashing them with the Socialistic points of view, such as sex, drugs, Darwinism and so forth. There should be more time spent teaching the children the necessary skills to be a productive citizen, and more to the point - teaching them the morals of the bible, and about Jesus Christ.

Job Security? Hey, the jobs are waiting if they'll only take an interest and 'Get 'er done' lol. instead of bumming off the government!

Our democracy provides for all of those things, which leads to the fact that, RESPONSIBILITY IS A PART OF LIFE!!!

What say you?

I think Americans want those things, but not too many people can't agree on how to get it. In the end, I think it comes down to two ways.

1) Pay more taxes and let government handle health care, housing, etc.

2) Lessen taxes and take care of it on your own.

Honestly, I don't know which one is better. Europe has its own problems with a more socialistic view of government.
Here, we have our own set of problems with a "do it yourself" approach to health care, etc.

I agree but I don't know if its possible anymore with globalization. I think this is taking away from America while at the same time may be the only way to survive. Balancing this out will be a major challenge for America even where it comes to our type of government. The future is very uncertain for the things that most of us just took for granted.

The thing that the conservatives fail to understand is that when it comes to Healthcare - it is IMPOSSIBLE for most people to handle it without the help of a larger government body that looks out for them.

How could Joe Shmoe who works at the local Wal-Mart pay for his cancer treatment?
You know they won't allow a union to demand that he be accepted for insurance.
You also know that Insurance companies would fight tooth and nail to keep from paying out on it.

So at some point the government HAS to intervene or else Mr. Shmoe should not have to pay taxes or respond to a draft or claim his earnings to a government that does not support his right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

Many people change their tune on this subject when they are faced with a costly disease or condition... By then, it is too late, they have already voted against their own future.

They do especially on education.

Cons can be very ideological. Some of them think "government is not the solution, it is the problem" is written in stone, by God himself. In fact, speaking of god, it seems like some of them worship capitalism as their second God as if it can do no wrong.

I, on the other hand am, a pragmatist. I think there are some things only DEMOCRATIC (for and by the people) government can do best: print money, regulate inflation, serve justice, protect the environment, and give every person a decent opportunity to suceed with education, job training, GI Bills, etc, etc.

I know I want those things, but when I speak about them to other people here, the vitriolic spew I have to endure is unbelievable. And I live in a college town! So I would guess most Americans don't want them, or at least, they don't want the changes that would be necessary to make those things a reality.

Peace? W gets his "piece".

Health care? Do you think Cheney just paid for his recent operation? No........ the American tax-payers did. Talk about your welfare.....

Better housing? What better housing than the White House? Paid for by the American tax-payers. (Beats the projects.)

Better education? Why bother getting educated when you can get into the White House without any scruples?

Job security? I'm sure that the "good old boys club" will take care of Cheney and W when they are given their executive pink slips.

Democracy? *LOL*......... what "democracy"?

Most Americans will say they want these things. But, in large part, AMericans are afraid to pay for these things. Unfortunately, American are much more willing to pay on the back end.

Yes, they do.

In all my years of working blue collar amongst
America's working class, I would say that most people want that.

What does it say about or democracy, indeed!!!

"Socialist" is just another of the weak-azz labels that cons throw out there.
