Why do so many in this world act immorally and call themselves christians?

Because Christianity is a name, that can be treated like a hat. Some days you wear it and some days you don't.

The answer is three fold. First, many religions call themselves "Christians" but don't believe in the Bible. Second, it is sad to say but people see Christianity as a cover all umbrella where they can live any way they want. To put it like it was told to me a while back "They have fire insurance but that's about it". Thirdly if you look for bad or negative things that's all you will see.

One other thing that is hapening is Christians are not living like they should We are to be in the world not of the world. It is sad but many Christians are caving to pressure from society to act a certain way.

Granted, people are not perfect. They backslide regardless of the belief system in which they're invested. That's all the more reason not to have a belief system, but rather to use logic and reason as your sole guides to the world around you; and to realize that you are not beholden to some imaginary friend/judge/protector.

Christianity lets people literally get away with murder, as long as they "repent" - so there's no reason for christians to be nice.

Take yourself, for example, referring to those who believe differently as idiots.

I think people rationalize their behavior to live with themselves. Also, if they don't feel that others are human beings, they can justify being hurtful because they don't count.
