I am not taking anything right now I want to know if anybody has or is taking any meds. I had "baby blues" really bad with my last child. My mood swings were not nearly as bad as they are now. I just want to make an educated choice and not be talked to like I am stupid.

It's good that you are looking into all your options now. But maybe your mood swings are pregnancy related? Hopefully once the baby is born and your hormones settle down you'll feel less moody. But to answer your question, i don't know if they are safe to take while nursing.......good luck to you.

I personally wouldn't. Your mood swings are probably due to being hot and pregnant. When the baby is here you will be so happy and busy with the baby you won't need meds. Be strong and change your mindframe. The power of the mind is unbelievable. However, maybe there are some antidepressants that are safe for you to take but I'm not sure which ones they are.

Honestly, I would never take medication while pregnant or breastfeeding. The doctors may say that it won't hurt them, but if you do your research, you'll find many cases where it has. I don't mean to over worry you, but it saddens me to see so many people making the wrong decision that just didn't know better. If you are going through depression there are other ways to cope and heal these problems without taking medications, and you would be better off for it. Just look around. Counseling may be an option.

Good luck! I hope things work out for you and your new baby! :)

I breast fed for a while and the dr gave me a prescription that is not harmful to the baby/babies. So I think it is ok but you may want to clairify what type you are taking when you call on monday. Good luck! I still have mood swings after kids way worse than before I had them it is so hard.

I wouldn't, but studies are coming out saying that antidepressants are safe during pregnancy and lactation. I'm just over protective. A lot of women get depressed after having a baby. I remember feeling really empty. You should talk to someone, that may help. Congrats on the baby!

No, anything you cunsume goes to your child. So it would be like their on antidepressants also. Are you on them now? If not, hold off breast feed for a few weeks and then take up the med issue. Nothing wrong with bottle feeding either, so babies like it better.

Good Luck!

Yes there are antidepressants that are safe to take while breastfeeding. Many moms with postpartum depression are able to breastfeed while taking antidepressants.

When you visit your doctor he or she would be able to tell you what medication would be right for you.

Good luck and I hope the birth goes well for you.

U SHOULD NOT be taking any antidepressants while pregnant!!! unless u are a severe risk to yourself. (suicidal)
Everything u take ur baby is taking. I dont care what the doctor says, its common sense. Have u seen the Paxil class action lawsuit in play right now. Babies came out with severe heart defects. They said that was safe too!!!! Please stop taking it!!!

Of course you should ask your doctor. What has your doctor said about taking anti-depressants during pregnancy? Likely, the same rules or similar advice applies to breastfeeding.

If you are not feeling well, physically or emotionally, you should be able to consult your doctor whether it is the week-end or not! Please reconsider, and I hope you feel better soon.

I have a friend who had to take antidepressants after her baby was born and, much to her dismay, her doctor told her it she had to stop breast feeding. There may be different types of meds. now with lower doses which will allow you to continue breast feeding, but you'd really have to ask your doctor.
