No don't trim it. You need to remove the unit from the casing, turn it upside, remove the lint (which holds the petrol) to reveal the wick. You then get a pair of tweezers and pull the wick back. Replacement wicks will be purchased from any good tobacconists.Any more problems just visit their site at http://www.zippo.com/index.aspx?bhcp=1

easiest would be to trim it...you could pull the guts out of the body and remove the cotten pad in the bottom. along the side of the body on the inside you can move the packing around till you find the wick and pull it back in...write to zippo , bradford pa. to get more wick...they just had a 75th anniversary party in bradford over the weekend...

Yes, you can trim the wick with a pair of scissors. That is what my husband did. As for the wicks you were able to buy these in tobacconist shops, but I don't know if any of these exist any more. Our civil liberties have been taken away unfortunately for us smokers.

to replace the wick , you just take the padding out of the lighter and feed the wick thru..

you can trim it with scissors or a knife. you can buy extra wicks at your local convenience store, or like all-pupose store. like wal-mart. or ampm...

but be careful while you trim... don't want to hurt yourself. ^^
