I think my router is secure...but heck, I'm no wise guy...

Thing is, my connection's been slowing down, perceptibly! How do I tell if someone's sneaking in, stealing bandwidth, if that's what it is, know what I mean?

Your firewall can log all attempts. Your router can log all traffic.

To find out what's going on right now:

Open a command box (start/run/"cmd") and type:

"netstat". This will show the network connections that you have.

"netstat /a" will also show you the ports that are open.

"netstat /b" will also show you what program is connecting to the network.

for more options type "netstat /?"

Have you scanned for malware, spyware, rootkits, etc..? Try that as well. They take up most of the bandwidth used and a lot of people don't realize it, making their computer a zombie. Try scanning around real well after you update your virus and spyware definitions to the latest.

Also you could go to your computer manager as well (Right click on My Computer, then "Manage), and check the "Services and Applications." Stop and/or disable the services and applications you don't need to be running. Remote access, help apps, netbios sharing, etc. will slow down your proccess and bandwidth as well.

Good luck.

Most routers have a log you can view when you access them. Check out the log and see if any outside IP addresses have gained access to your network. You should also be able to require a password for network access.
