question is too broad...

necessary to......

be in love?... no... you can love without marriage

have a full happy life?... no

to file joint on taxes?... yes

to live on base if your loved one is in the military?... yes

to have kids?... no

to be successful?... no

... so in some cases it is, but it all depends on what you are asking.

Not at all. If it's the cause of a pending break-up between the two of you because one of you feels the necessity to get married, I'd go for it (If it were with the right person). But if the two of you are happy with the way things are, marriage is just an accessory. Look at Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn! No marriage... just an awesome relationship. Then again, look at Jessica Simpson... ideal textbook marriage that fell apart. Marriage is not a gauge of how good the relationship is.

This is what students always called a "trick question" to their professor...
If you have morals, then yes.
If you want any children born of the union to have a chance to grow up normally, then yes.
If you want respect from your partner, then yes.
If you want to pay less income tax, if both are working, then no.
There are many situations in life that require marriage; in other cases, such as income taxes and welfare, it has negative results.
So, it all depends upon whether or not you have morals, or have a practising religion (The Old Mother Goddess religions promoted promiscuity; I'm referring to any of the major religions, such as Judaism, Muslimism, Christianity, Buddahism, et al) or just want "to do the right thing".

ABSOLUTELY NOT.
The good lord NEVER meant it to be a CIVIL piece of paper.

When you find someone, stay with them, love them etc. "THAT" is a marriage.

The "civil" piece of paper does nothing but make trouble. MAJOR trouble, and quite frankly CONTRARY to a marriage.

p.s. in marriage everyone has an out but when there are children, that out, should be forfeited.

and to think that one, only has to have a "WANT" to get a divorce can have one, is ABSOLUTELY A SHAME AND A DISGRACE.

A civil marriage is always PROFITABLE to a woman, and SUICIDE to a "father".

As Americans we should be ashamed of this. Never is it in the best interest of the children but always in the best interest of the mother.

Equal rights?............such a shame to fathers and their children.

For some it is, and men don't always cheat, women don't always cheat. For ME marriage is not necessary (learn to use spell check)

Loaded question. I am a little bit old fashioned. I think if there are going to be children, then yes, should be married. But otherwise, no, not necessary.

I think its not neccessary unless you love eachother and you both are old enough have decent jobs and have traveled and been together for a while and know you want to spend the rest of your lives together.
