you mean like a pleco? that would be fine. the pleco will leave the beta alone and the beta should leave the pleco alone b/c they can take care of themselves. Just be careful with what kind a sucker fish you put in there b/c they get HUGE! There is one breed you can buy that will only grow max or 2-3 inches. Ask a pet store.
as for another fish, just put something in there that is non agressive and the same size. Some beta's are really agressive so you won't be able to put another one in there. I have a beta in a tank of gouramis and they get along fine.

you could mix suckers with Betta but not in that small of a tank the Betta is the only fish you can have in there they say there 3 fish tanks but there most of the time only one for that small the company's that make those tanks don't really know what there talking about and suckers real names are pleco or Chinese algae eater which you cant put with a Betta you can put plecos but not Chinese algae eater because they will suck on the Betta and kill it

A betta is a good fish to start with but I would rethink the plecostomus since it can grow large enough to be put into a 40-gallon tank. Try a freshwater snail instead.

Yes, a sucker fish will be fine in the tank with a betta, but you need to get the right sucker fish. Check fish stores and get a few Oto catfish. The regular sucker fish will get way too big for your tank and some of them are too mean to go with your betta.

I think it depends on the size of the sucker fish? My friend said that her Betta ate anything it could fit in it's mouth. Be careful! :\

Yes you can. I have owned Bettas for years and he will be just fine with a few sucker fishes. I reccomend getting a Cory. They are on the small side and very peaceful and gentle. And they have quite a few different neat color patterns...albino, leopard, etc.
Good luck!
For the one giving the thumbs down..research beforehand: http://bettas.fishjunkies.com/tankmates.php

They are not sociable fish. They will challenge to fight any fish. Especially with large fins. Your algae eater and beta will be fine together... read my little story.
I had a neon glass fish and my beta kept on chasing it around the tank and my leopard sucker fish put up his large fin on his back and my male beta stopped and went to the middle of the tank or the other side. Then my neon glass fish would swim around the leopard sucker fish. My leopard algae eater never hurt my beta, he just chased him away. It was like Tom & Jerry with the (bulldog) all over again.
I should have named them that.
Beta fish = Tom
Lepard algae eater = Spike (bulldog)
neon glass fish = Jerry
