Greatest landslide victory in Plresidental history. Reagan carried 49 out of 50 States, the only one he lost in 84 was Mondale's home state of Minnesota. Just think Liberals if Gore could have carried his home State of Tenn, during the 2000 election, he would have won, if your own home state doesn't support you what does that say about you!!!!! At least Mondale's people liked him enough to vote for him, even if he was more of a pathetic joke than Al gore.

He wasn't berated day after day for 8 years. Conservatives apparently like Reagan because of what they think he did - or said he wanted to do - not what he actually did.
Reagan was great for ending the Cold War.
Terrible for increasing the national debt from $908.5 billion to $2,684.4 trillion, and the trade deficit by a factor of four.
Great if you were making more than $200,000 a year; awful if you were the average working guy.
Awful for taking the US from a creditor nation status to a debtor nation status.
Great, if your corporation wanted a merger. More than 25,000 seperate merger deals.
George Will says, of the middle six Reagan Budgets - he produced deficits totaling $1.1 trillion, with Reagan proposing 13/14th of the total.
Walt Rostow said of him, "He's been a good time Charlie. Nothing bad's going to happen on my watch. Screw the future."
You can idealize him if you want. I personally liked him; but recognize he bought all the prosperity on a credit card, and we are paying the interest.
Check out the chart: http://www.lafn.org/politics/gvdc/Natl_Debt_Chart.html
Compare "tax (pay for) and spend" to "borrow & spend."
Carter handed over to Reagan an economy that owed $75 b. a year in interest.
Reagan & GHW Bush handed over to Clinton an economy that owed $295 b. a year in interest.

Why did Clinton do so much better with the economy that Reagan did? Record growth AND putting us on track to pay off our Reagan era debt. I'm more impressed by what a politician does in office than what they promised to get elected.

Actually I, grudgingly, give credit to the foresight of many Democrats when it comes to Reagan. His vast majority in those elections was carried on the backs of so-called 'Reagan Democrats', who tossed out party lines to get the nation back on track and support a man that would stand up to the Soviets. I am not a huge fan of the Democrats either, but give credit where credit is due.

No. It is a reflection on the stupidity of the average American voter who voted him in.
Anyone with a brain could have checked out his credentials and the disasterous things he did in California as governor. Same thing with the current idiot.
Many Americans don't bother finding anything out for themselves...either too lazy or not smart enough. Instead, they listen to the candidate and rely upon what he/she says -or whether he/she is good looking - or dresses well..... Boobus Americanus doesn't have much between the ears unfortunately.
With Bush, too many people stayed home on election day and allowed that madman to become President. Sometimes you get the President you deserve.

Yah, well no party likes to be left out in the dark. To this day the Dems will never admit that Reagan really helped this country. All they will say is that he was another Republican president who didn't do much. Lets review what he did.
1. Carter left us in a recession, good job. When Reagan took office he increased government spending, particulary on the military and lowered some taxes. This helped curb inflation and by 1986 the economy was rolling. And for those who say he didn't help out the poor their wages increased by several hundred dollars a year.
2. By beefing up the military and forceing the Soviets into a arms race they couldn't win he faciliated the fall of the Soviet Union and he challenged them or scared them into tearing down the Berlin Wall.
3. He also unfortunately was key in aiding Bin Laden and Saddam get into power but so ws every politician.
He did other things but these were the most key. In my opinion he was the greatest modern president and the last of the true conservatives.

No. Remember Reagan cheated in 1980. George Will stole the Carter team briefing book for a major debate and gave it to the Republicans. Reagan also ended disgraced during his second term too. Seems Republicans have a hard time following the law.

Eight years of what Reagan do best acting and not one of greatest actors. Policies that ran up huge deficits made Ollie North a hero because it was done in the name of national security.
Thanks to Ronnie and his tax cuts i got whole savings of $55.00 I used it go out buy a condo. The rest I invested in the stock market ketchup prices when up when he declared it a vegetable.

Who wouldn't bash Reagan?
"Meanwhile, the atrocious misadventure known as the 'Iran-Contra affair' was represented in Washington as a domestic embarrassment for the Reagan administration rather than a conspiracy to bleed to death the Nicaraguan government, whose only threat was that of a good example. That countless innocent people were killed or denied the opportunity to free themselves from poverty, disease and illiteracy was never an 'issue.'
A subsequent ruling by the International Court of Justice distinguished the Reagan administration as the only government the court has ever condemned for 'terrorism,' calling on it to pay the Nicaraguan government $17 billion in reparations. This was ignored and the matter long forgotten, for it was the slowest news."

You have no idea what you're talking about, however since we're playing with numbers, answer me this. If Reagan got over 90% of the electoral vote why then did Bush get barely more than 50%. Are we seeing the GOP in decline?
