Where are you driving from?? Las Vegas is a 24 hour town. It never shuts down. Gas prices were lower there than any I found on my 2 week, 3,600 mile trip. I used a Garmin C-340 GPS audio Street Pilot on my trip. Be ready for traffic day and night, when I was there days were in the 100 range and had been for 138 days and according to the news had at least 7 more to go. Nights were in the high 80 range. I would think the best time to arrive would be in the early morning from 3 to 5 AM. Have fun I did.

I usually leave San Diego around 4AM. Seems to work out pretty good for me. Also, I usually go on a Sunday (partly because hotel rates are cheaper than Friday and Saturday), so that probably makes a difference too.

Yeah, I'm probably going overboard to avoid traffic, but I simply hate crowded highways.

Best time to go is on a weekday. If you plan on going on a Friday, however, leave early. The ride is sometimes slow becasue of construction or accidents.

A week day. We've seen traffic stop and go for over 20 miles once east of "four corners".
