Why do things get weird when the issue of liking or disliking comes up?

No-one likes to be rejected in what they like or dislike. It can feel like a personal attack.

Because it is un-accepting. Liking and disliking are judgments. And that is a can of worms that can get out of control. As far as between boyfriend and girlfriend it can only get weird if, deep down, one or both of you are somehow un-accepting of each other.

Because all people are different as are their likes and dislikes and how intensely they feel about them.
