Friend,
I have seen this question many times here. There is no direct answer.
In Upanishads too it was ''Neti Neti method....this is not me.this is not me method adopted.''
Vedas too educate you in the same way.
So you will be made to learn what YOU ARE NOT first .Gradually you understand that you understand that you are not the Body, you are not the mind, you are not the five sensory organs, you are not five motor organs, you are not the praanam.....like that and the path will lead you to realise yourself what you are.
Your realisation can not be transferred. You will know it then.
So there is no simple single line answer to your question.Read scriptures and realise, friend.Good luck.
EDIT:
Pardon me questioner FOR USING THIS SPACE OF YOUR QUESTION.
Under phylosophy a question is sked , some members are giving irrelevant replies. In R & S I am seeing this many times.I am a learner here .When I do not know any thing I watch what the elite people answer and try to learn.Let us make this Forum a beautiful learning school.Let there not be prejudice. We are all brothers and sisters.Thank you.

First of all you are a creature born from this earth created from the very earthly matrials, governed by the earthly laws of the nature and the society. You follow the customs and rules developed and set by the one of a superior creature called the human being. Your species has evolved for millions of years to come to a state as you are now ; intelligent and always learning and adjusting to the environment and circumstances to survive in a comfortable and in a better way.
Your species is helped by the sun, the moon and other extra terrestial factors to grow and survive.
One of your important motto should be to survive in a peaceful way and know more about your Earth and also to respect and protect your origin, which is very important to your survival and the survival of your species. Nothing extraordinary can happen unless you get the true feeling of your position on this Earth.
....... to be concluded.

The famous question Of Bagawan Ramana Maharishi, I don't know whether you have started from there or is it on your own?
The answer can begin from searching who you are not in the first place. For example am I the sense organs or the limbs or even the mind etc.Deduce it for yourself and all your identities with it.This is the way to begin. And later it is a constant enquiry even when a thought arises --for whom is that?

Everybody is different but special and unique in their own way! Don't take yourself too seriously and try not to get so philosophical about life! Just Embrace life, have a good circle of friends, learn from your mistakes, learn from others, always have faith and always remember the child with in you... Remember; have fun, enjoying the roller coaster of life... I could go on and on! Bless you... Hope that helps!

You are you, just like I am myself, and the people answering this question are themselves.
There is no one like you, not one who will ever measure up to you, and no one who thinks/loves/lives like you.
You are an individual, you are who you make yourself, you are the artist of your life, you are God's creation, you are special, unique, amazing, magical, wonderful, positive energy and a spirit.
You have the power of your imagination, there are things that only you will ever know and dream up, you are so one-of-a-kind that it's amazing. You are something else, a gift, a moment, a breath, a life.
You know secrets no one else will ever know, you have had thoughts no one else will ever have. You are not perfect, but neither am I. You are one with the universe, you have accomplished a goal just by living.
You are love, faith, peace, joy, hope, anger, sorrow, guilt, happiness, success, failure and imperfection in one.
You can provide life, give your life and live your life.
That's who you are.

Excellent question. it is amusing when sometimes people who exchange visiting cards usually say "this is me". there is always this search for identity which one can say is brings meaning to one self.
The being is the body, mind and soul. that unique pattern which is your self.
It is important to understand from where the question emanates since one doesnot accept oneself totally, there fore a question on the identity.
if one accepts oneself then it is of letter importance who you are.
each of us leaves a part of ourselves on the when we interacct with others. so while it is important to seek answer for the question " who am I" we need to be aware that who we are is percieved by the impact we leave on the others.
