IF you were telling the truth, and aren't racist, then you have no problem. Hang out with the blacks, and be "color blind." They are human beings, as you are -- and that's all that counts. A NON-racist person would have no problem doing that.

Hmmm...
I think, it's not a matter of the other people in the school being ignorant. The problem, the ignorance, lies within you. You can't see beyond the fact that it's not a all white or mostly white school therefore, you think your high school experience will be ruined.
As you move on in life, go on to college, employment, etc you will continue to see that it's not an all white world. Matter of fact, it has never been.
Open up your mind, look beyond colors and races then maybe you'll start experiencing the"best years of your life" otherwise I guess you'll be going through life blaming your "ignorant" (as you call them) non-white classmates, co-workers, neighbors, etc for ruining your moment/s.
"There is only one good, knowledge, and one evil, ignorance." -Socrates

I suggest you make friends with some of the African American kids. There is no law saying you can only be friends with members of your own race. I'm sure you will find that you have lots in common with many of the African American students at your school.
By the way, these years are very far from being, "the best years of [your] life." I think parents feed their kids that line because the parents don't want to hear their kids' complaining, "you are ruining my life" or "you don't understand" or "life isn't fair."
You will be amazed at how much fun it is to be an adult...independent and free from your parents authority. It is a total blast. Life being when you leave your parents house.
So buck up, and make the best of the situation. You might surprise yourself by discovering how fun it is to know people from different backgrounds. Don't wall yourself off from life.

I can understand what you are going through, I've been in many situations where I was the only black person, you have to step outside of your box and get to know the people that you are around, don't just try to hang out with people that are the same race that you are, you might find that you have more in common than you think you have, you create your environment, you may also find that you are interested in things that you didn't think that you could be, open yourself up to new people and new experiences and you might find that life can be really enjoyable

You have the normal fears of any kid going into a school where you know almost no one. You will find your share of racism, that is for sure...blacks can be racists also. But, you will meet a whole new set of people to hang with...just STAY YOURSELF....Please do not try to become ghetto, or anything else you are not. People will like you for YOU, not what you pretend to be. I am very sure that Blacks find those whites who play like they are black to be about as stupid as a rock...don't ever be thought of as stupid. And you will be very surprised to find that Blacks are no different than whites...we are all the same under all that bullcrap that is heaped on us daily.

I have a ton of friends that are not white, I have Saudi, Indian, Kenyan, Nigerian, Japanese, Vietnamese, Chinese, South African friends, and of course some white folk. It doesn't matter what colour their skin is, it matters who they are. I get a long great with my non-white friends. I've done this since Grade 7 and will be graduating this coming June. It has still been the "best years of my life".

Why should you only be able to hang out with people like you?
Try to make friends with everyone, having a diverse group of friends is a good thing.
If you absolutly can not stand it then change schools, there is no reason for you to be there, do everyone a favor and move to whiteville.

You're a whack *** racist punk. You need to go somewhere else, because nobody will give a flying **** to get to know you if you hate anyone who is white. You're ruining the "best years of your life" on your own.
