We've all heard the Michael Vick story and now cock-fighting has hit the mainstream media . Seems that it's illegal in every state except Louisiana . Governor Blanco has proposed a new law that would make it illegal there too . . . but not until next summer ? What ? What would be the delay ?
And obviously , SOMEBODY is going to these events . So who the heck are these 'somebodys' ? Do you know any ?
BTW , the roosters are equipped with razors on their claws to rip their opponents to shreds !! Nice 'sport' huh . Oh btw , a little checking will show you where this is a so-called tradition. . . . . . . .seems our peace-loving , compassionate , friendly , 'only here for a job to support their family' immigrants are very much involved in this . I don't want anyone to think I'm blaming them entirely , cause I don't . But it is worth noting .

Do You Know Anyone Involved In This Barbarism ?

LeAnne - Yes , you are right . Most laws were written for stupid people anyway . Think about it . . Do you NEED a law to tell you murder is wrong , or arson , or bank robbery ? Nope . Stupid people do .

I have never been to Rooster fight myself, although when I was living in Texas we where invited to go watch such an event. We declined the invitation, but found out that it is quit prevalent though out the south. Almost completely illegal it happens in every state south of the mason Dixon line. Dog fighting has become vastly popular in the north eastern part of this country. Larger cities like Chicago and Detroit are also plagued with these violent acts. Southern California being the colossal melting pot of crime that it is, finds itself home to both vile "sports".

I live in LA too and know people that do it. It's wrong and disgusting, but the people that do it get very emotional about it very quickly. I know a guy who spoke about it on tv - he didn't say anything bad, just kind of impartially discussed what it was about. He got all kinds of hate phone calls and people coming in his place of business and threatening him. It can be kind of scary to speak out against it. Most people keep their opinions to themselves.

As for the pitbull breed being exterminated, anyone who says that obviously have never been around them. I have worked at a vet clinic for years and out of the hundreds of pitbulls I have come into contact with, only a handful have been vicious. And it was because of the owners, not the breed. The owners had neither the want nor the knowhow to discipline them and they became vicious. As a breed, they are very loyal and loving if raised right. I, and the people I work with, have been hurt more by the little breeds, like chihuahuas and Jack Russells than any large breed, like Dobermans and Rottweilers. If anything, the smaller breeds are the ones who need to be muzzled in public and THAT is from a very long experience of working with all kinds of dogs.

I knew someone who went with her husband to one of these fights and made her sick. When I first moved here there were alot of places that had the individual c*cks raised in their yards. I couldn't believe it. Then they passed a law and you didn't see them anymore but the practice continues. They also passed a law about dog fights, but even the judges in the bass-ackwards states loves the fights, so it's never enforced. We went to look at horse about an hour or so from here and past this enclosed property and I ask the guy we were talking to what it was,and the people that owned it had "used" wild animals the enclosed area so hunters could pay to go kill a wild animal. All this crap makes me sick. I know that "famous" people do not get charged with crimes unless they're pretty sure of a conviction, so "if" Vic is convicted I hope it serves as a wake up call to others, but i would be surprised, because as I said alot of our small town judges enjoy this sick sport.

I don't know anyone involved in those so called "sports". I have a friend who lived in TX for quite a while, and he told me they are very popular with a certain segment of the population down there, and that it is not immigrants--it's Cajuns. They gather up their traveling road show, and bring it to TX several times per month. He said it's big business in some places in the south.

The problem is that people who know about it know very well that it's illegal--he said it adds to the mystique. An acquaintance, not knowing how digusting my friend finds the racist policies of the KKK, bragged that security is just like that at a KKK meeting. They are held at out of the way places, and you have to pass multiple checkpoints where armed men either wave you through or turn you back before you get to the venue. And you always have to "know someone." You use that person as your contact, and their name as your ticket. It's a very closed system, very hard to get into, and the people who engage in it are just as eager to keep it going as the rest of us are to see it abolished. They see it as a fine American tradition, and one which they would like to pass down to their children and grandchildren. Whatever happened to passing on traditions like who carves the Thanksgiving turkey, or having an egg hunt for the little kids on Easter??

i have known a few people involved in the fighting, some have even went to jail for it. i have never watched a "match". dogfighting is cruel IMO,but i'm a dog lover. c0ckfighting is a naturally occuring thing for gamec0cks,the spurs are cruel though. those involved are usually not the rich and famous i think that is the reason the media is so upset over Vick. on a side note a few i have known sold weed or were bootleggers, the fighting was what got them busted though.

I do not personally know anyone who attends these events. However I have had the chance to talk to people who have participated and trust me, if you ever talk to one and someone ask you if you could believe that they dog fight you will answer yes. Most of the guys i have met who have done this sort of thing are heavy into drugs and are pretty much sociopaths, the dog fighters anyway. The reason they want good fighting dogs is because they put them around their houses to stop police from raiding. Not really nice people.

Dog-fighting is getting big where I live. I know someone who went to prison for it. It's horrible. These people are obsessed with pit bulls and claim to love them so much but then they make them fight to their death. It's cruel....

Note: I believe in innocent until proven guilty and Michael Vick has the right to a fair trial just like anyone else......

Pretty sad, eh, and disgusting.
Personally, I know of none - if I did, I would report them immediately.
I can think of no excuse to delay the implementation of laws that are so obviously needed. The real sad thing is that they are needed at all.

LOL - Brian

I live in a nice Midwestern Conservative Republican city. I really am sheltered from a LOT of the garbage that goes on in this country...and I'm GLAD.
I don't know ANYONE involved in this type of thing.

My wife has a son in law who would LOVE to fight his Pit Bulls. He's a high school drop out, couldn't tell the truth with a gun to his pea brain. Has his dogs carry a car tire in thier mouth. I think that it makes him feel like he has a big dick or something. Personally,I think his mama should have aborted him. I know, I know, let me tell you how I really feel, lol.
