There is nothing medical about shaving a baby's head nor does it affect the thickness of their hair. That is based on genetics. I have 3 girls and the oldest has thin, fine hair like mine, my middle girl has thick curly hair like my mothers, and the youngest is only 3 weeks old so time will tell on her. I just take the stance of letting their hair do what it will do on it's own. And a baby's hair most likely will fall out on it's own, I wouldn't help it along.

medically necessary? are you serious? come on now!!!! the answer is NO. that is a cultural thing, and some say it will make the babys hair thicker. which is 100% false. your hair grows from the papilla, which is under the skin, so by cutting it off from above the skin is doing absolutely NOTHING. the only thing i have seen so far that makes any sense when its cut, is when muslims cut the hair of the new born boy, and give the weight of the hair, in gold to charity.

No, but cutting it will help it grow in thicker. I started shaving my sons head at 5 months. And he has really thick hair now, but I still keep it shaved. My girls, I started trimming the ends off their hair as newborns.

This made me giggle
Only reason why I'd find it necessary to shave a baby is if they had lice?
Otherwise what's the point?

No, not usually.
Speaking of wive's tales, cutting hair will not make it grow in faster or more thickly - if that were even halfway true, bald people would be cutting their hair.
