Corporate America -- why do people earning millions spend their time on petty items and stirring trouble?

It seems like the hypocriticial hierarchy people spend too much time in BS -- talking about the clerical staff, destroying people's lives, just so much junk. Why can't we go to work to work and move on. Why is everything a project, a procedure (though nothing is tracked) or a controversy?
