In fact, to cut short and state in brief a long story, America did not attack Vietnam, rather was dragged into the country when the French control and influence in Vietnam started losing steam! Having got in, America was caught up in the internal struggle between North and South Vietnam, the former controlled then by the Communists which in turn had the support of other communist states like China and Soviet Union. The scenario then in Vietnam was somewhat like the present situation in Iraq where a civil war is apparently 'on'!

To stop the spread of communism,.over and over again we were told if we pulled out of Vietnam before victory communism would spread all over Asia...today we can see that did not happen ! It's unfortunate that with IRAQ Bush is giving us the same line replacing communism with terrorism !
As they say the more thing's change the more they remain the same !

Because we are a war-like people. We glorify war. Hell, watch the Discovery channel or the Military Channel! We revel in war and even long for the days of yore when we were in global conflicts.
