It takes awhile - it took me 5 mos of getting thru the changes and learning how to be single again and doing everything on my own.
I knew what I wanted in a relationship/marriage and I didn't see that in many people - but then I didn't think I was ready either....I started on a dating site and found men that were too needy, bitter, or selfish......some were very kind too.
I found myself nit-picking...I wasn't ready.
You have to heal and gain your confidence back in yourself and realize that not all relationships fail but whatever caused your divorce, needs to be dealt with and changes need to be made within yourself and your partner choice
Set boundaries, not walls.....what you are looking for in a relationship is allowed, what you are not looking for is not allowed to cross......You know what you want, choose well.
Even then, it's still a process.......It'll take someone special to stay within your boundaries.

Going out as friends is a good way to start and there is no time line. It's all in how you feel. It is a good idea to not get into something serious for close to a year so you have time to heal. It sounds like a long time to be alone after being married but it really isn't once you look back on it. Everything will work out and you will be fine...just keep your head up and you will just wake up one day and realize you are a whole person all on your own and someone else is just to accent you, not complete you.

I started to date before the divorce was final. It was a judgement error. It has been nearly eight years and I have just discovered myself for the first time in my life. I don't need to be "attached". I see friends that I choose to share with as often as I like. It's so easy to be me these days. I'm truly living happily ever after, one day at a time.
