Idealists and ideas are entirely unconnected. Idealism refers to things which are ideal such as types of states (communism, capitalism etc.)
Many, many ideas come from the materialist world with profit in mind e.g. all the luxury items we buy.

From a materialistic point of view, all ideas come into existence in the mind from our interaction with the physical world around us, as if there was no such interaction we would not be able to conceive any idea or though, or consciousness of our being into this world. The mind in this sense is like the surface of a lake where ripples are created when wind blows upon its surface.
And since there is always struggle among all things in the world in order to reach most stable position i existence, all things get prioritized in relative orders. We, for instance, end up having best thoughts at the top of our mind and seeking still more. This is how ideals and our search for ideals are born into the mind - not that we are borne out of ideals we have.
Even though the question - what is purpose of this interaction, or us being here in this world is the ultimate question, it does not come from outside the mind, but it does lead UN onto regions beyond our knowledge and comprehension, with our ideals not in far-fetched corners of the universe, but at the very root of our thinking.

Not a materialists, but I will have a stab at this.
As I understand it materialists take the view that what you can percieve is all that there is.
ideas come from the connections between these perceptions.
For example
a materialist seeing a lamb and then a sheep, will have the idea that a lamb is a young sheep.
But if they just see a lamb, and no sheep, they are unable to forsee the idea that would become a sheep.
just reread this, sort of makes sense......

From the materialist's point of view, Ideas are certain patterns of neuron firings in the physical brain. Materialists believe that everything that exists is made up of some sort of four dimensional matter, including everything that makes up ourselves. This means that, in one manner of speaking, they don't believe "ideas" exist at all.
It depends, of course, on how you define "idea". If you are going to say that an idea is some experience had by the soul, or if you say it is the remembrance of a Platonic form, or if you say it is immaterial in any way...the materialist doesn't have to say where they "come from" because they will say "If that's what an idea is, I don't believe in ideas."
If idea is defined in a way where materialists are allowed into the ballgame, they will explain how they believe that ideas are internal experiences in the brain, and are made out of electro-chemical energy moving in a very precise and intricate pattern, which is determined by the location and action of the brain cells (neurons). If that's what an idea IS, where does it COME FROM?
The materialist sorts of ideas come from the senses. Our traditional "five senses" are the inputs for information into our brains, but we have more senses within our own bodies. Materialists say that our ideas come from our own internal perception of the workings of our own brain. This is how we are able to form concepts, the experience of watching and participating in the workings of our brain cells.
The ideas that we have come from an internal "sense" of the firings of our neurons, and arise from complex patterns of matter and energy, says the materialist.

The simplest answer is the answer to this question...(as it often is in life, even though we hate to admit that some things can be explained rather simply...humans love complication...)
"Ideas" come from your brain...
That squishy bundled mass of electrically stimulated and oxygen-fed neuronal tissue that usually remains unseen (if all is going well) protected by your thick cranium of skull bones (some people's are thicker than others)is the sun source of all "thoughts, "emotions," and "ideas..."
And so I say...(even though I don't believe...)
"God Help Us All...!!!
"Damn you, natural selection...!
"Damn you...! (a Charleton Heston-like posturing under a beautiful azure sky...surrounded by poor, starving, and/or militarily butchered corpses everywhere...part of life and awareness of the World is depressing sometimes...so...
"Let't rock!")
