"We know the Kings were the better team, that Vlade Divac, Scot Pollard and Mike Bibby were victimized by a series of phantom fouls, and that the free-throw disparity in the fourth quarter was indefensible. The numbers still don't add up: The Lakers attempted 27 free throws in the deciding period while the Kings, the aggressors throughout the best-of-seven series, were rewarded with an underwhelming nine."

"When that stuff started coming out about (Donaghy), the first thing I heard from people down here was: 'Oh, my goodness. I wonder what they're saying today in Sacramento?' " related Los Angeles Times columnist Bill Plaschke. "Everybody knows the Lakers weren't the best team that series. Die-hard Lakers fans won't admit it publicly, but deep down, they know something was very wrong with that game."

"Game 6 of the Kings-Lakers series was one of the worst officiated games I've ever seen."

What do you think - fixed or just terrible refs?

it still hurt me as a kings fan to think about that game, though is was 5 years ago. it could have been fixed. "Tim Donaghy wasn't anywhere near the premesis" is a quote from sacbee.
so unless there are other refs who fixed the games, it kinda seems unlikely.

It was fixed. Game 5 wasn't great reffing, and featured typical home court NBA bias (Shaq fouled out and 2 of his 6 were really bad calls), but then again Doug Christie (by far the best defender the Kings had on Kobe, and *the* second most effect defender of Bryant in the early-mid 2000s behind Bruce Bowen) fouled out right after Shaq on a phantom charge that was a clear make-up call.

The Kings got no makeup calls in LA in game 6 - if the refs call that game fairly (they weren't just bad, they CLEARLY had an agenda for who would win), the Kings win it. At one point Kobe gave Mike Bibby a forearm to the face - pushing off Bibby's face with his forearm in order to get open - and Bibby was called for fouling Kobe. That's when I knew for sure there would be a game 7. Webber "driving on Shaq" more could not possibly have altered game 6, the only thing Webber could have done to alter game 6 was to kill Bavetta and Donaghy.

"This year it was San Antonio, they are from a Hispanic market and Hispanics being a large segment that is going to be the majority in 10 years, Stern is marketing the League to Mexicans now. "

Yeah, Stern loves it when a team that consistently draws low ratings makes the Finals over more-hyped teams that more fans watch all over the country. Get real.

IT WAS FIXED AS WAS THIS YEARs PLAYOFFS!!!!

I think there is an unwritten rule from the League office,
to give calls to superstars and teams that are favored
by the League office.

I think it was Fixed by Stern, not so Much the Refs,
Lakers have the LA market and alot of Hispanics in
LA. Sacramento must have fewer than LA.

Ever notice why the West Teams are all good? they
even got the top draft picks when they don't have
the worst teams. Well More Hispanics in the west
than in the east.

This year it was San Antonio, they are from a Hispanic
market and Hispanics being a large segment that is
going to be the majority in 10 years, Stern is marketing
the League to Mexicans now.

So yes that game was fixed, as was this year's playoffs.
Stern wants merchandise and ticket sales to the
Latinos since they will the majority, there has been
a lot of studies by major corporations and that's why
other corporations are marketing on the Spanish
channels.

Definitely. The free throws tell the tale. The Kings were ribbed, then amazingly disrespected.

The Kings had seven games to win that series. It isn't the ref's fault that Chris Webber is nearly seven feet tall and scared to drive against Shaq.
