Do you agree that if a phone call comes into or goes out to a terrorist nation we should be listening to it?

Yes. We should listen to all phone calls, there are domestic terrorists and foreign terrorists already here! I'm sure our President has already ordered this. In fact, all forms of communication should be monitored so that anti-administration targets can be identified for liquidation.

Yes. I also think that a warrant would be issued in such a case. I have no objection with monitoring communications to probable terrorist or suspected terrorist. I object to doing it without a warrant. If there is a problem with too few judges to authorize the warrants then expand the size of the FISA court and make more judges a part of it as needed but don't just listen to anyone you like anytime you like and tell us its all terrorist. If you have worked in an office then you have probably discovered that out of 100 or so people you work with there is probably one or two you wouldn't entirely trust in every circumstance. What makes you think the people doing the monitoring are in every case absolutely honest at all times? If a judge signs a warrant then at least someone is trying to make sure the monitoring is justified. If no one watches the watchers then do you really think they will never step out of bounds?

Well, I don't want the government listening to my private phone calls, going through my library records or digging into my private life. Why do they focus on doing this only for terrorism? Terrorism is not the only crime that kills people. Americans have more of a risk of dying from their fellow Americans.

I really like this quote:
Benjamin Franklin said during arguments leading up to the War of Independence, “ They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.”

I am liberal, but agree that we should be listening to foreign phone calls when we can, but the executive branch (no matter if its Democrat or Republican) should have to share what it is doing with the other branches of government. sure listening to foreign conversations is fine, but it won't stop there w/ no oversight. The American people need to understand what is happening in general....If the Executive branch starts to use its spying on Americans calling Americans (it may have already done this) and the congress is powerless, then we would be living in a dictatorship....I like the freedoms of America and I'm proud of what America stands for, that's why is angers me that Bush has done what he has done...This is a serious government issue and is mountainous compared to a bj for Billy

If I choose to make a phone call outside the United States I don't believe it is any of the government's business, unless they have evidence that I'm somehow involved in terrorism and have presented that evidence to a judge and received the thumbs up to do that.

Otherwise the potential for abuse is too great. The party in power can abuse their power to spy on the opposition, intimidate anyone who disagrees with them, etc. And if you don't believe the Bush administration has sufficient lack of scruples to do that you have apparently been in a coma for the last 6 years.

Yes absolutely without a doubt, if we are to combat this threat, we need to give up a bit of our liberties, and the government has more to be focusing on than wanting to eve's drop just for the he11 of it, so yes by all means I think it is imperative if we are to survive.
