Now ask Advance Auto if they can run a charging system test with a hand held charging system tester, to see if the alternator they sold you is working properly. Some times a car that had a low voltage problem gets jump started and bad things happen.. You don't have a check engine light do you? Have Advance check for OBD 2 codes too! Sometimes the computer has to re learn how to idle again.

Its must likely the alternator again, or it could be the battery cable, for some reason the focus has issues with alternators. Like you said you got the alternator from Advance auto and had a shop install it, not a very go thing to due, That's like taking a raw hamburger to Burger King and having them cook it for you, it just doesn't work. The best thing you can do is go back to the shop and get a price to have car fixed , tell them you'll need old parts, if it is the alternator you can return it to advance Auto.

it is quite normal for an altrernator not to charge enough at an idle to keep up with the electrical loads of a vechicle especiely with the ac on high and/or headlights on. after market alternators tend to do this more cause of the quality of parts used to remanurfacture them. if money is an isue than live with it or by an OEM part

May want to increase the idle slightly. Some models have an adjuster screw at the throttle plate. Turn in slightly to increase the RPM. Do not increase over 850 at an idle.

Be sure that the alternator has the right amperage for your car. They may have given you the one for the car without a/c.

you need to step up the idle speed. It is basically an easy adjustment . Don't step it up to much or you'll be burning a lot of gas.

It's spelled "alternator", and it could be bad. This isn't a battery problem.
