I'm starting to do research on possibly buying a small apartment home in one of these two places. Ever since I was a small girl, I have dreamed of living in Paris, but just recently I fell in love with London. I have been to both places, and think I could handle the move. I don't speak the language, but i know I could pick it up pretty quickly as I did take 2 years of French in high school (which would cover Paris). My lease is up in my current place here in Atlanta in June of 2008 so I still have some time to think about it. Any suggestions? I'm 31, so i'm old enough to do this on my own without any parental involvement...thanks.

If you plan on living in either London or Paris you will need a lot of money to live from.
You will need a long term visa, most likely also a work permit unless you have an income not out of work.
To apply for a work permit you normally need to have a job lined up or be trained in a field for which there is a shortage of workers in Europe, and the only field that comes to my mind is nursing.

Both London and Paris are much more expensive than the countries they are in, and the people working in those towns live away from town because they can not afford any apartments in it, two hours of commuting each way are normal, some people live even farther out.
Property in town that is much cheaper than those around it is suspect, often it is because it is in a bad part of town.

I would advise to start job hunting as soon as possible, for now to see what is available.
And look at the sites of the real estate agents, to check on property prices, as they may come as a shock to you.

After all these warning I still wish you good luck, if you still think it is the thing you need to do, go for it.

Paris, it's a lot more romantic, the foods better, the art's better, the scenery's better, plus you'll have a foreign language under your belt at the end of it. I'd definately brush up on the french before I'd go though, French people don't make much effort to speak English when you're over there and they prefer it if you make the effort to speak their language. Anyway London's not far from Paris thanks to the Euro Star so you could always hop on the train if you fancied a trip to London.

French people are very arrogant, especially in Paris. Go to London, that is a great city and people are nice.

I personally have always wanted to go to London. As long as you don't mind the rain, I would suggest London. Paris is nice, but I think London is better. Besides, in London, they have Brittish accents! :)
