Can I laugh at you? Ok first you had an automatic transmission right?

See in every gear, there is a fire zone, often highlighted red in speedometers. The sound is simply that your engine(specifically your piston) had blown due to the sudden change of gear.

So ya, be prepared to speed a fortune changing it. When people do burnout, they hit all out in emergency brake with a drag. Then release the emergency brake for a burnout launch.

Well next time hold your foot on the brake and press the gas pedal at the same time.

Now your replacing the transmission....

I had a friend that did this one better than you.

He decided he would reverse about 30MPH then slam drive and floor it, well it worked out - but the cop didn't think it was to cool.

Yup you broke it good probably every one above is correct to a greater or lessor degree. the one thing I would like to point out is the transfer case. they are often chain driven and all the torque goes though them. I would take a close look at that. they are not cheap either (probably around 700 to 1500 installed.) Good luck

You have imploded the inside of the tranny, not to mention the rest of the drive-line. Inspect the driveshaft & rear axle before repairrng the tranny..If all component need replacing, could run upwards 5 grand.

Sounds like you grenaded your tranny. I recommend that you get a serviceable tranny from an auto salvage & have someone qualified install it for you. You'll need to get the P/N of it from Ford to make sure you get the right one. You're probably looking at anywhere between $1,500 & $3,000 all said & done.

You may start with checking to see if it didn't bust one of the u joints or the drive shaft. Thats a good possibility speed racer.

with any luck you blew the torque converter and not the tranny, the tranny will have to come out either way to fix it.

good answers above - just one thing - you may have blown your torque converter - never the less it will be expensive. good luck
