on park benchs and under trees near the war memorials they helped create? Shouldn't Bush at least allocate some of the billions spent on "foreign aid" to actual Americans, or at the very leat acknowledge them?

Did you ever play the strategy game "Imperialism"? It included foreign aide as a strategy of world imperialism. Too often questioners mess up by linking a good idea with a bad one.

The cost of foreign aid is trivia; compared to the cost of soft hearted societies that warehouse multi-murderers, because the death penalty is just too terrible a punishment for torturers and mmurderers...but it is ok for innocent, unborn babies, whose only crime is being unloved.

There are many reasons for foreign aid, from business relations to diplomatic peace initiatives...not to mention the Godly desire to relieve the suffering of the most poor humans on earth!!

But vets living as homeless vagrants is scandalous.

We treat criminals better than that. Ultimately, theives are imprisoned for refusing to live on the street, without homes, and sleep on park benches like these honorable vets do..

In the depression men were arrested for "vagancy" weren't they!?! That was just terrtible...heartless and unfair...but THIS is even worse!!!

Many a homeless man has thrown a brick through a window to get off the street, by going to jail.

Jail would mean 3 straight meals a day, a roof over your head, the luxury of time to write a book or study for a law degree, and free medical attention...plus a colour TV, etc.

What a world we live in. Speaking of politics, as I guess I am...

At least the hated communists did not do THIS!

Is a benevolent dictatorship so bad, compared to a democracy hijacked by big money and heartless, selfish little minds? The trouble is, "benevolent" dictatorships disintigrate into selfishness and heartlessness usually!

By the way, last weekend the cops in India killed Shiv Kumar, a guy they called "Robin Hood"(who was hidden by the public in a poor region, because he robbed the rich and gave to the poor)

Shiv Kumar, also known by the alias Dadua, led one of the few remaining bands of outlaws that have roamed central India for centuries, their exploits romanticized in Bollywood movies, with many hailing him as a modern-day Robin Hood, stealing from the rich and giving to the poor.

Kuma was wanted in more than 200 cases of kidnapping, extortion and murder and had a bounty on his head of more than $12,000, which is a small fortune in this poverty-striken region of India.

Kumar was slain after a fierce battle between police and bandits, after he was identified by villagers. Four of his accomplices were also killed in the battle in the poverty-striken Chitrakoot regionmof India, about 400 miles southwest of New Delhi.

God bless honest, harmless hobos, not just veteran war heroes but ALL of them! There is something nobel about refusing to give your soul to the devil in exchange for getting out of poverty!

There is a vet in Dallas who started a research project on these many homeless vets. It seems the vast majority have never been in the service, and those that have did not see combat. The news media likes to portray the Viet Nam vets as drug addicted, mentally challenged because of the horrors of the war. The pictures are not reality when it comes to the vast majority of vets.

When i lived in Omaha we had a club that held auctions to support soup kitchens downtown for the street people. Most of them were vets .Most had mental problems and had no home.To get a job one has to have an home address and one cant have a home without a job.It is a very real and sad time.In the winter the Police would round them up as so many lived under freeways and put them in jail so they would not freeze and fed them. It would break any ones heart.
Our Government has not addressed this since at least WW1.
What a price they have paid and are paying for being in the military.v When you set down at night to a hot meal and go to bed in a warm room think about them. There is no where to get help.Forget the Veterans Hospital. It is such a shame.
There is no one out there but us. When you see a vet down and out and slip him a couple of dollars. If he spends it on Alcohol it is between him and God. I cannot judge these men. They were at one time someones father, brother, husband and son.Keep them in your prayer.

Take a look at the budget spending and compare domestive versus foreign aid. But before you do that, take an educated guess at what the percentages are. 50/50? As far as homelessness, I'd rather my money not go to people who aren't interested in fending for themselves.

I don't have a lot of sympathy for the homeless. Yes, I'm liberal, and believe in helping the disadvantaged, but I work in a major metropolitan area, and see homeless everyday. The majority of them are able bodied, do not appear or sound like they have any mental illness (admittedly it might be hard to tell) and a large number are obviously scammers. So while I agree that many homeless may need help, I can't get too worked up about the homeless in general.

It is sad but we all can see where this Vietnam in the desert is going except the person leading the war who is almost the only one in favor of it. when bush gets out of office he never will have to think about Iraq anymore it will be over for him weather the war is over or not. this is not so for the many wounded and dead for some this war will never end like my father who is still suffering from injuries sustained in combat in Vietnam, the government fights him over every doctor's bill he receives. this is what the government will give you. This government does not deserve the people of this country we deserve better...

Bush can't do anything to actually help homeless or wounded veterans. He's too busy demanding that those disloyal Democrats Support Our Troops to waste his time with pointless crap like that.

IF YOU KNOW OF VETERANS THAT ARE HOMELESS AND SLEEPING UNDER TREES AND ON PARK BENCHES WHY DON'T YOU GET THEIR NAMES AND TURN THIS IN TO THE VETERANS ADMINISTRATION?

CALL YOUR REPRESENTITIVE OF YOUR COUNTY AND INSIST THAT SOMETHING BE DONE FOR THESE FINE VETERANS.

DO YOUR PART AS A CARING AMERICAN FOR THESE HEROS.

An excellent post, but to be fair a republican did build a home for homeless vets near my home. He was a Nam vet himself and has a soft spot for the vets. I would mention his name except for the fact that he' s just as crooked as the rest of the republicans!

Republicans only like soldiers when it makes them look good. Since taking care of the hurt and wounded veterans wouldn't necessarily make them look good, they often turn their backs on these troops.
