I agree with you...Wake has been great at times and then awful at others...I would rather have him in the 'pen than in the rotation because he has just been too inconsistent in my book to stay in the rotation. I think the Beckett, Dice-K, Schilling, Gabbard, Lester rotation you listed would pretty much stack up against anyone's in the entire league.

First off the Sox should not trade Lester, Gabbard, or Delcarmen. Which is one of the reasons trade talks fell through for Dye and Tex. They aren't willing to give up good young pitchers with promising careers for a short term fix now. The reason the Red Sox are in the position they are in right now is due to the developement of their farm system talent. Also the reason the Yankee's aren't the team the same team they were in the 90's since they depleted their farm team and don't have any prospects that are major league ready.
Most likely you will see all still in the starting rotation. Hinted at by Tito when asked when Schilling will start. He said that it would depend on how Beckett feels after his next start. That they might want to throw in an extra day rest for him. Which wouldn't be a bad thing. The red sox pitching staff has performed great this year and if you can keep them freshed with using a 6th started that isn't going to diminish your chances of winning they why not. All it would do is keep your top pitchers healthier when it comes to the stretch run and playoffs. With healthy well rested starters like Dice-K, Beckett, Schilling, Gabbard, Lester you have to like the sox chances in the playoffs. Not to mention healthier starters can translate into healthier relievers. And the sox have the best bullpen in the AL and I think only second behind the Padres in the ML.
At least that is my 2 cents.

I think Wakefield needs to stay in the rotation just to give the offense enough innings to overcome a bad outing. The knuckler is so unpredictable that it's tough to make him a reliever on a regular basis. Also, he's nearly the whole reason the Mirabelli is on the team. It sure isn't for his bat.
It's tough to pick a fifth starter with the available lineup. Beckett, Dice and Schilling are sure bets (if healthy) and Lester is the only lefty. Wake can screw up a team's offense for a week, and Gabbard has shown flashes of brilliance. I guess I'd send Gabbard back to Pawtucket and go with the other five. I'm glad it's not a decision I have to make.

Beckett,Dice-K, Schilling,Wakefield, lester,Put gabbern back in minors for a little bit because he just had a 5 run game with makes me look like a weirdo but wakefields more consistent and gabern needs a little bit more time and lester looks like a allstar the way he's pitching
the trade has so many options but right now well defeinetly trade one of those 2 and maybe somene else before the deadline

Lester will be the big question mark as to his continued health. If he stays healthy I believe he should be in the five man rotation but I would also have Wakefield there and move Gabbard to long relief. I believe the Red Sox Need the experience of wakefield there for the stretch run.

It will be interesting to see how they work it. Schilling is still technically the "Ace" of the team so he will be first. Then Beckett, Matsuzaka,Wakefield and either Gabbard of Lester. I personally would like to see Lester make a few more starts to see how he can get himself out of trouble. That is always something to watch. Matsuzaka is great at getting himself out of trouble! Which ever pitcher is out of the rotation, I would send back to Pawtucket so they will be pitching on a regular basis to keep them ready for the big leagues. I wouldn't mess with the bull pen too much since it has been great!

Move Gabbard in a trade for Carl Crawford, and leave the rotations as Beckett, Dice K, Schilling, Wakefield, and Lester. Then if there is an injury, bring up Clay Buchholz to fill the spot. If he sticks, then move Wakefield to the bully.

that a good question but I think they keep Lester in the rotation and send Gabbard back to the minors. Of course they could trade Lester or Gabbard for another bat.

That would be a good move except Wakefeild is a good asset as a starter...he usually lasts long bridging the gap from starter to reliever and always has a decision...he's a good 5th pitcher
I think from Lester's first start on its basically a pitch off between him and Gabbard...whoever loses either goes to minors or gets traded for a backup outfeilder

its obvious that it will be schill, beckett and dicek. Then i guess wakey and Lester, but if Lester can't pitch out of jams, we know Gabbard, for the most part can, so could easily swap them if they fail. i hate snyder so deal him to a team in need of pen strength, and get a 4th OF so we can also trade willy mo.
Failing that, do not force any trades and stick with this team to watch them win a WS!
