There are 3 areas I look at when thinking about a wireless carrier. Service Quality (reception), Customer Care, and Phone selection.
In general service quality for all the companies varies with the city (or even area of the city) you make your calls in (AT&T is better in some cities, Verizon in others, etc...) This is, in my opinion, the most important factor in choosing a carrier. If you are getting good service then that is one reason to stick with AT&T.
Customer Service (how nice / willing the company is to work with you and/or fix your problem) is next. AT&T ranks mid to lower pack in most reviews I have seen. No one seems to love their wireless carrier. Verizon seems to rank above AT&T in most surveys I see. Still, you don't really have to talk to customer service all that often if you already know your carrier and reception. I would not move away from a carrier that I knew provided good reception in the areas I call unless I knew that I would need to be talking to customer service a lot. (If you are at the edge with finances and may need an extension every now and then, or if you like to try and return a lot of phones before choosing one, as examples)
Finally phone selection. Sometimes a killer phone will make it worth moving to another carrier (i.e. the iPhone craze for example). But in general I can almost always find a suitable phone from any of the larger carriers. So unless there is a killer phone I gotta have, this doesn't carry as much weight.
As for the phone... The Razr V3 got decent reviews. Its call quality is listed as "admirable". And for a free phone (with discounts, etc.) it will probably be very tough to beat.
In summary, unless there are other factors, I would probably get the Razr and stay with AT&T.
Good luck on making your choice.

Hi,
It depends on which part of the country your are residing? In some parts AT&T is really good but if you are looking at nationwide good coverage, then Verizon is better. Motorazr is a very good phone and rather was a revoution, when was launched.
You can definitely go ahead and buy that. As I said for the network, please depend on your experience, because sometimes one gets used to one network. If you had no trouble with AT&T, I would suggest you stick on because they are ramping up their coverage and from here, they can only improve!!

You do not have to re-sign a contract once it is up, you will continue on your same plan on a month-to-month basis unless you do a hardware upgrade (get a new cell phone), or accept promotions (such as 3 months of free calling or something).
If you call in and tell them your thinking of cancelling, or ask to cancel when you're no longer on a contract, the representitive will go over all of your options to try to keep you as a customer (such as offer free phones, cheap plans, etc)... so I would strongly suggest to call customer service before just cancelling.

If you still have the phone you have now, you don't have to renew your contract, unless you buy a new phone. Stay with AT&T. :)
