Because everyone says they are classics I have tried watching all three of these movies several times and everytime I've fallen asleep because they are terminally BORING!!!!! Seems like all they do is sit around eating and talking, then someone gets killed, then a car pulls up, then they sit around talking and smoking..... etc.... etc..... zzzzzzzzzz! Why is this crap considered classic?

I'm going to be honest. I'm 25 years old and I love The Godfather movies. But, I'll give you some real reasons these movies (specially the 1st one) are considered classics. You got to consider the time frame the were made. The first one was from 1972, a time were a "great movie" was something different that in 2007. These movies portrait many economical and social issues. Also, they were the influence to other great gangster/mafia movies. But, if you don't like this genre, you won't like The Godfather.

DialM, no biggie, maybe they just aren't your type of movies. I mean, they have action, drama, and suspense. They don't have love, humor, or touchy-feely stuff, though.
I'm 44, and never watched them until just recently, in July, and LOVE them. I also like Goodfellas. But it's no big deal if you don't like them. Heck, The Sound of Music is a classic, but I'm not crazy about it, but it doesn't bother me that it's called a classic. Why does it bug you so much? Cuz it obviously does, considering your last sentence. We can't be pleased all the time, my friend.
Ease up, relax, sit down somewhere quiet and think about why this bothers you so much.

first of all, they are timeless
but try watching a few scenes at a time - you'll see the brilliant performances and subtle direction that make them such icons of the movie industry.
the dinner scenes portray the importance of family meals within the culture and the importance of family. that's part of the subtlety, or portraying an otherwise normal close knit family with strong family ties. . . just a different line of work from most folks.
they are a lot to take in all at once - you wouldn't eat a chocolate cake at one sitting either - so pace yourself.

If you think The Godfather movies are boring then there's definatly something wrong with you!!!!
Some people just have no appretiation to GOOD films.
