why do I always lose myself when I fall for somebody? It;s like I let everything in my life come to a halt and let images of "him" take over my head. Why is that and how can I stop being like this?
It is so hard and very debilitating.

When you feel you are losing yourself it means that you are "lonely for yourself", you are lacking in self-love. You can't expect to find love in another person if you don't first love yourself. Check out this book:
"Honoring the Self" by Nathaniel Branden

First of all be calm please. Clear your mind like a still water and read.
No you got no problem with you, you are perfect and fine just need some guidance. If you want to overcome your present problem you will have to believe that you are perfect you have total control on yourself.
Do you know, we are what we think. Our acts are result of our thinking. We can not blame anyone but to change our thinking pattern and over come any problem.
In your case try to think good points about yourself then think for xyz any thing but in positive. I am sure after doing some practice you will get what you want.

It seems to me that you have a bit of a low self esteem and you feel you need to take on a boyfriend's life to validate yours.
Make a conscious effort to do your things and put aside these images of 'him'. You're a person in your own right, and you need to have images of you in your head instead.

My only suggestion spider is, live your life for yourself. Take strength from any thing you achieve but most importantly answer only to yourself. If anyone likes you for you, fine, hop on, if they don't they can hop off. Be strong or as Toyah sang in the eighties "Be Loud Be Proud Be Heard!"

I used to do the same thing but I stuck it out in the relationship and worked on being with him and being myself. It works for me now...

I used to do that too. Ask God to help you think rationally throughout all your relationships and ask for wisdom. Also to put God first. God will help you. God Bless!!!
