Earth is not destined to blow up, if the Sun follows the normal path of stellar evolution. In about 5 billion years time, the Sun will run out of hydrogen fuel to fuse to make helium and start to fuse helium instead. It will then start to swell up in size for about100 million years, and engulf Mercury and Venus in the process.
The Sun will lose mass in the process and its lower gravitational attraction will enable the earth to spiral out to a wider orbit than we currently pursue, and as a result, escape being engulfed.
However, the earth will be heat-scorched by the enlarged sun so much nearer to it, and the oceans and atmosphere will boil away into space, making earth into an uninhabitable rock.
So yes we will need to up sticks and find a new home. but we have 5 billion years left before this becomes critical.in which to find somewhere suitable and to develop the faster propulsion speeds that would be needed to reach there within a human lifetime,
We may have to face the possiblity that not everyone could go. Even if world population did not grow beyond 6.5 billion, it is probable that the early colonists will not exceed a few hundred in number and the rest of us will have to be left behind to fend for ourselves, as best we can.

Its possible by that time that people may have found a place to live else where, like the moon, and this may provide some support for a while. But, when the planet does explode or what ever, i think that a vast majority of poeple will survive on the moon and then may be able to expand from there.

It will be a bit late to start looking at that point. We could start with our current level of technology and anticipate innovations and solutions to various problems as they arise and foresee that it is quite possible that within the century we can have habitats that could cross the distance between the stars under construction. The Earth is hardly likely to go "Boom" before that. Of course if we get dragged backward by Al Gore and Islam who knows?

Define "we". As earthlings "we" will be destroyed if our planet blows up. Perhaps some beings from another planet or galaxy may discover anonther planet "we" didn't know existed. Where's my tinfoil hat?
