The CT scan procedure involves taking multiple x-ray images of a certain section of the body. What is the procedure and how are this images combined to form the pictures that we finally see on the film? I am particulrly interested in knowing how the image of an 8-voxel cube is developed into the final image.

If you're serious, get thee to an engineering library. It involves a procedure known a tomographic inversion. Anton is a reference I've found particularly useful. Golub is a good general reference for the required matrix computations. Voxels are produced one planar cross section at a time, so you want a square mesh. Ruden has a good appendix on how to construct a square mesh projection matrix.
